SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Writer Addresses That Mysterio Vs. Doctor Strange Concept Art From The Movie

Spider-Man: No Way Home writer Chris McKenna has opened up on that concept art showing a battle between Mysterio and Doctor Strange at the Statue of Liberty. Find out what he had to say right here...

Spider-Man: No Way Home saw the MCU's Peter Parker team up with two familiar Variants to battle five sinister villains from across the Multiverse. Many fans have questioned why we didn't get to see the Sinister Six in action, though previously released concept art has shown Mysterio squaring off with Doctor Strange (a hint perhaps that Quentin Beck was once the sixth member).

During a recent interview with IGN, screenwriter Chris McKenna addressed that piece of artwork and put it down to a lot of different ideas being discussed during the early stages of production.

"We've worked on a few of these [movies] now and they'll bring you incredible concept art," he explained. "You're like 'Wow, someone thought this up, and now it's going to be a set-piece.' So when we didn't know what the movie was quite going to be, we were playing around with a lot of different ideas, you're dealing with the Multiverse and a lot of different ideas get thrown around."

"I am familiar with what you're talking about," McKenna continued. "I will say when you open up the Multiverse you get a lot of conversations where anything can happen."

Not revealing that Mysterio really was from another world feels like a missed opportunity. After all, Beck being the mastermind behind the likes of Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus coming to the MCU would have made perfect sense, and that could have explained his presence at the Statue of Liberty. It does sound like this was little more than just a very early idea thrown around, though.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now playing in theaters. Check out that concept art again below:
