SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Writer Reveals Another Scrapped Idea For Tom Hardy's Venom

Spider-Man: No Way Home co-writer Chris McKenna has confirmed that Venom was once set to factor into the movie's final battle, while revealing another scrapped idea for Eddie Brock in the threequel...

Venom: Let There Be Carnage's post-credits scene appeared to be a real game-changer for the MCU after unknown Multiversal madness pulled Eddie Brock into that world. Venom showed a great deal of interest in Peter Parker, and it looked like the stage was being set for the symbiote to clash with the wall-crawler either in Spider-Man: No Way Home or a future movie.

The alien anti-hero was nowhere to be found in the threequel, but showed up in a mid-credits scene revealing that Eddie had never bothered leaving Mexico. With that, he was sent back to his own world, leaving behind a piece of the symbiote we're assuming will somehow travel to New York.

It all ended up feeling a bit tacked on and pointless (Sony gonna Sony...), but Spider-Man: No Way Home co-writer Chris McKenna confirmed during a recent interview with Empire (via Digital Spy) that they did have other ideas about how to include Venom. "We were going to try to have him show up at the Statue of Liberty [for the final fight]," he started, reiterating past comments.

"And we were even toying with having him stuck in the Lincoln Tunnel," McKenna added, presumably referring to a post-credits scene revealing Venom had made it to New York but got stuck in traffic.

That might have actually been fun to see, and a cab driver could have easily subbed in for the barman who told Eddie all about the MCU's crazy side. It's still makes for an unsatisfying end to his time in that world, but at least it would have pointed to him and Venom trying to take a bite out of Spidey!

As of right now, it doesn't look like Toms Holland and Hardy will be given the opportunity to share the screen as these characters, but there's always a chance the MCU has its own Eddie Brock...
