SPIDER-MAN Spinoff DUSK Reportedly In Early Development At Sony Pictures

Yet another Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters (SPUMC) movie is reportedly in development, and this one is set to focus on Cassie St. Commons, aka Dusk. Find out more after the jump...

Sony Pictures has reportedly added a new Spider-Man spinoff to its list of upcoming SPUMC releases.

According to The Illuminerdi, a Dusk movie is in development at the studio, though no further details on the project were provided.

Several different characters have taken up the mantle of Dusk in the comics - including Peter Parker himself for a time - but this version is said to focus on Cassie St. Commons.

First introduced back in 1998 in the pages of Slingers, Commons was a supernatural hero with the power of teleportation. She also had some psychic abilities, and eventually mastered the art of shadow manipulation and tissue regeneration.

We'll have to treat this as a rumor until we learn more, but the source has been consistently spot on with their scoops, so expect the trades to confirm at some point.

Sony is expected to add even more projects to the SPUMC in the coming months, and already has Morbius, Kraven the Hunter, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and an untitled project (believed to be Spider-Woman) from Olivia Wilde on the agenda.

What do you guys make of this news? Any Dusk fans out there? Drop us a comment in the usual spot.

@Kingdork - I'm glad you brought that up. If I don't get an Aunt May, I'm blowing off the entire Spider-Man franchise AND the MCU!

I WANT MY AUNT MAY FILM!!!

@Kingdork - I'll watch a movie about Aunt May as a spy, but only if she's played by the 93 year old woman from the Raimi trilogy.

@Godzillakartt - Peter got a weird all-black alien suit (not that one), and used it to temporarily adopt a non-Spidey identity while Spider-Man was wanted. The four fake identities got repurposed as a team book where four teenagers were brought together... for some reason (it's been a few years and I didn't love the book).

I always felt like they had potential, though. All four suits were well-designed and the character archetypes were fun. They were just saddled with the wonky Slingers name that didn't actually fit any of them.

@LSHF - Most likely it's a her.

@Godzillakartt - It's "Turkish Spider-Man" from a movie 3 Dev Adam. Back in 2014 it used to be a 60's era Spock picture, but when they announced the Marvel/Sony deal I changed it to celebrate Spidey. From a distance it looks like Leonard Nimoy in cheap Spider-Man cosplay.

Or at least, that's what I think it looks like.

Add it to the pile of unmade Sony Spider-Man spinoffs. Silk. Black Cat. Sinister Six. Silver Sable. Spider-Woman. Kraven the Hunter. Madame Web. Aunt May goes to the CIA. When will they learn?

First appeared in Peter Parker: Spider-Man #91 - #92. Four issue Identity Crisis arc, which means expect three more rumored spin-off reveals in the near future.

Four part arc. Two issues each part, eight issues total.

I really can't math today.

@Reeds2Much - Spiderman: Identity Crisis would have been a damn good title for spidey 3 if they hadn't gone with the 'Home' subtitles

If you want a spin off J.Jonah Jameson. Get JK Simmons and people would go crazy.

Years from now people will talk about how severely Sony just didn’t give a [frick]

@BlackBeltJones - I know what you are saying, and I feel that they "do" give a [frick], but they don't have anyone in charge of these films who truly knows what they are doing. Amy Pascal thinks she does, but she has some major ego issues.
