MARVEL STUDIOS' SPIDER-MAN: FRESHMAN YEAR Animated Series Coming To Disney+

We've been waiting for a new Spider-Man animated series (which isn't aimed at toddlers) for a while now, but little did we know that Marvel Studios has something in the works! Read on for further details.

UPDATE: A logline for Spider-Man: Freshman Year has now been released revealing that the animated series "follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming Spider-Man in the MCU, with a journey unlike we've ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots. Executive producer Jeff Trammel serves as head writer." Amazing news, eh? Original story follows:

The wall-crawler has starred in many classic animated TV shows over the years, but it's been far too long since Spidey had a series aimed at a slightly older audience. Now, there's a chance this one will also be more kid-focused, but the fact that Marvel Studios is producing Spider-Man: Freshman Year for Disney+ has us excited.

When Tom Holland's Peter Parker made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Captain America: Civil War, he was more than likely a Freshman (he was a sophomore in Spider-Man: Homecoming). That could make this show a prequel to the events of the 2016 movie, meaning we'll be following the hero as he swings into action as a rookie superhero in that red and blue homemade costume.

Again, we're only assuming this is set in the MCU, but between that title and Marvel Studios' involvement, you have to believe that will be the case. Spider-Man: Freshman is also likely to be welcomed by those of you keen to learn more about Peter before he crossed paths with Tony Stark.

We don't know if Tom Holland will be back as Spider-Man, and this show is likely still in the early stages of development, but fingers crossed Marvel Studios plans to reveal more details soon.

Hope they don't turn Spider-man into Deadpool like in the Ultimate cartoon. It's kinda annoying IMO.

@Fogs - I hate the ultimate Spider-Man cartoon with a burning passion. It’s made all the worst that this Deadpool-Spider-Man replaced the really good Spectacular Spider-Man series.

It's either canon and we see proto spidey or its just a re-imagining. If its a prequel, it's gonna be a short series.

Worries about what villains they introduce on this. It means we won’t get to see them in live action

@JFerguson - I’m assuming all the villains will be street level based.

@WruceBayne - That'd be cool. Hope there's Enforcers

This is interesting. I'm excited to see independant pre-stark peter in his prototype suit just figuring things out on his own. Wonder what they'll do for villain? Maybe someone low level like Hammerhead or Tombstone or the Enforcers so Vulture feels like a step up? Or, maybe they go Chameleon, who in the comics, is the only villain besides the burglar who killed uncle ben to predate Vulture. Or, wild idea: Big Wheel
