Marvel Animation shared a first look at Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 at D23, but that next batch of episodes won't be the end of Peter Parker's story. Instead, it seems there are long-term plans in place for this version of the web-slinger.
The series, which was initially billed as exploring the life of the MCU's Peter before he met Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War, eventually evolved into its own thing. With showrunner Jeff Trammell in charge, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has delivered a fresh take on Spidey's world that still feels loyal to the comics and, specifically, the work of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
According to a new report from Murphy's Multiverse, following comments from Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel Studios Brad Winderbaum that Season 3 has been greenlit, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 4 is also in the works.
Trammell pitched a four-season plan for the show, but has suggested he would like to extend the story beyond that if given the chance.
The site has also shared news about five production companies set up by Marvel Studios for live-action projects: Atlas Hall, Dredge, Fragment, Throttle, and Veil.
"Atlas Hall" is the X-Men reboot, which will be filmed in the UK and Ireland. "Fragment" is Black Panther 3, another movie that's UK-bound, while this new report reveals that "Throttle" is Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling's Ghost Rider. That's set to shoot in the United States, which hints at locations the UK won't be able to serve as a convincing double for.
While not confirmed, the site posits that "Dredge" references two prison transports, Dredge 01 and Dredge 02, that crashed on Earth at the beginning of Marvel Comics' Annihilation event (in the pages of a Drax the Destroyer comic). If so, it seems highly likely that this one is for Michael Waldron's Nova, which we'd imagine places it on course to be released in 2029.
As a reminder, it's long been rumoured that Nova's MCU debut would see Richard Rider doing battle with Annihilus, and this is the perfect project to bring back the Guardians of the Galaxy, sans James Gunn, of course.
"Veil" is a Disney+ project, and the site theorises it could be for anything from Avengers Academy to Inhumans. For now, it seems we'll have to wait for the next round of announcements from Marvel Studios.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming a hero, with a journey unlike any we've ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots.
In our review of Season 1, we concluded by saying, "Amazing, spectacular, and downright astonishing - Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man exceeds every expectation and is a true love letter to the world's greatest superhero...the end result is the ultimate Spider-Man TV series."
Stay tuned for updates as we have them.
