SPIDER-WOMAN Director Olivia Wilde Offers Cryptic Response When Asked About Her Marvel Movie

Don't Worry Darling director Olivia Wilde has responded to reports that she will take the helm of a Spider-Woman movie, praising Marvel's (we're assuming she means Sony) approach to hiring filmmakers.

It's been some time since we first heard that Olivia Wilde had been tapped to take the helm of a Spider-Woman movie for Sony Pictures. We're assuming the project is still happening, with the belief being that one of the many actors to have joined Madame Web will eventually suit up as the hero.

Whatever Sony is plotting, it's wise for their Marvel Universe to have a Spider-Woman instead of a Spider-Man, especially if Tom Holland's Peter Parker is going to remain part of the MCU.

Talking to Variety, Wilde was asked about her mystery Marvel project, but refused to give anything away. "That, I can’t say a word about. Yeah, no - I can’t say anything about it," the actor and filmmaker tells the trade. "I have to bury myself in the couch now [Laughs]."

"I will say that I think the Marvel approach of allowing newer filmmakers to come into the fold and have access to those tools of the Marvel universe is incredibly exciting. I am a big fan of what they’re doing over there," Wilde continues. "But, yeah, I can’t confirm whether that is what that is...but that would be cool."

Once again, it feels like this is someone mistaking Sony Pictures' Universe of Marvel Characters for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thus far, Sony hasn't enlisted any newer filmmakers for these projects, so here's hoping Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach haven't fooled Wilde into thinking she's joining a world that's better than it actually is (and that she's seen Morbius).

As for Spider-Woman, we'd love to see Jessica Drew brought to the big screen, though the character is set to appear in next year's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Who do you think should play this character in this world? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments section.
