That may not sound like a lot, but The Amazing Spider-Man 2) (which seems to be splitting the opinions of fans so far) actually had the highest opening day of 2014 in the UK, Australia, Belgium and Germany. Hit the jump for details on the movie which Sony are hoping will hit $1 billion worldwide...
Some love it, some hate it, but The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has kicked off its run at the international box office with a very impressive $5.5 million. The sequel opened in 15 territories yesterday, with the four countries above logging their biggest opening days of 2014. In the UK - where kids are currently on a two-week school break for Easter - the Marc Webb helmed follow-up to The Amazing Spider-Man took an impressive $2.73 million. Its predecessor earned a total of $40.3 million there, making it one of the most important international territories for Sony. There are only a handful of reviews on Rotten Tomatoes right now (Captain America: The Winter Soldier has 222 in comparison to The Amazing Spider-Man 2's 37), so how word of mouth from those overseas and the verdict from US critics impact its domestic opening in May remain to be seen.
