Marvel Studios & Sony Pictures officially unveiled Spider-Man: Homecoming as the official title of their next Spider-Man film late last night at CinemaCon and sixteen hours later, we have some potentially major casting news.

According to Variety, Academy Award-nominee Michael Keaton (Spotlight), remembered by many as The Dark Knight in the two Tim Burton-directed Batman films, is currently in very early negotiations to play the villain in the upcoming Spidey reboot. Details on the role in question were not provided, but if a recent rumor is to be believed, he could be in talks to play Adrian Toomes a.k.a. The Vulture. However, there have also been rumors suggesting the film could utilize multiple villains, so he could possibly turn out to be the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of Norman Osborn, Mysterio, Scorpion, or even J. Jonah Jameson. Nothing is confirmed just yet, so we'll have to wait and see.

If Keaton signs on, he'd join a cast headlined by Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and one that also features his former The Paper co-star Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and up-and-comer Zendaya as a mysterious character named Michelle. Jon Watts (Cop Car) is directing with a script from Vacation scribes John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein. Principal photography is expected to start this summer.

Wow Marvel. Is this because DC took J. Jonah Jameson? That's really petty man...really f*cking petty.
