Earlier this week, we learned that a top-secret actor has been cast as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's Scarlet Spider.

The cat spider may already be out of the bag, though, as it's been confirmed Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg has joined the cast of the sequel.

Last year, we learned that Jorma Taccone, a member of Samberg's comedy trio The Lonely Island, will lend his voice to The Vulture. However, the group's Instagram account has now confirmed he'll be joined by Samberg in a currently undisclosed role. Since we first published this story on Toonado.com (where you'll find all the latest breaking animated movie and TV show news), One Take News has claimed Samberg is definitely playing Scarlet Spider.

In the comics, Ben Reilly is Peter Parker's clone and took up the Scarlet Spider mantle before replacing his "brother' as Spider-Man. It's unclear how big a role he'll play in the sequel, but the web-slinger has featured prominently in merchandise.

Some new posters for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse have also found their way online which you can take a closer look at below.

Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn's full-time, friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence.

But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

The movie stars Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Karan Soni, Jason Schwartzman, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Greta Lee, Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone, Shea Whigham, and Oscar Isaac.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set to be released in theaters on June 2, 2023.

I guess it depends how it works, but I don't like this casting. But I trust this team to know what to do.

This better not be the top secret bombshell casting we heard about yesterday, because Andy Samberg is meh, and he's not exactly a recognisable voice.

I was hoping for someone big in the 90s, with it being a “big name” I thought maybe Brendan Fraser, and was hoping for Pauly Shore (though not a big name at all)

I hope they surprise us and Andy is like, Spiders-man

@IcePyke - Bodega Cat! He's in the Spider-Man Miles Morales video game. He comes out of Miles' backpack in a combo move to beat up enemies lol

This makes me happy, love me some Andy Samberg. Should be a fun role for him to play. Jake Johnson surprised me as a great Peter, so my mind is open.

Just keep this animated stuff and all Spidey variants(SpiderGwen, Miles Morales, etc.) away from the MCU so we don't have people get sick of multiple SM variants like they are already of Multiverse/variants/symbiotes.

Don't kill the MCU Spider-Man golden goose.

Andy Samberg did a voiceover for American Dad (he was a Christian cartoon character talking about the apocalypse) and it was so unrecognizable. He's more talented than he appears.
