SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Star Nic Cage Has Met With Sony To Discuss Live-Action SPIDER-MAN NOIR

Sony is developing a live-action Spider-Man Noir TV series for Prime Video, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse star Nic Cage has now revealed he's discussed playing the character in live-action...

Last year, it was revealed that Sony is moving forward with a live-action Spider-Man Noir TV series destined for Prime Video. It's part of the studio's plan to expand the wall-crawler's world on the small screen and joined Angela Kang's (The Walking Dead) planned Silk: Spider Society (which is now being creatively overhauled).

Oren Uziel (The Lost City) has been tapped to serve as the project's writer and executive producer, though The Punisher's Steve Lightfoot was added as co-showrunner this past December.

They're currently developing Spider-Man Noir alongside Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and longtime Spider-Man franchise producer Amy Pascal. Of course, the project won't be the first time this particular version of Spider-Man graces our screens.

Nic Cage lent his voice to the fan-favourite Peter Parker Variant in 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and, in an interview with Collider (via Toonado.com), he confirmed talks with Sony Pictures have taken place about him potentially reprising the role in the live-action series!

"Well, I can say that we have been talking. It's no secret that I love the character," the actor revealed. "I think the character provides another mash-up of sorts. I can combine my favorite golden age performances, i.e. Robinson, Cagney, Bogart, with a character that is, I guess, widely considered [to be] Stan Lee's masterpiece."

"I see it as a kind of foray into a pop art mash-up of, sort of, a [Jungian] Lichtenstein, mash up by way of Bogart and Cagney, but nothing's definitive yet," Cage continued. "It's just conversation."

It's previously been reported that the untitled series will follow an older, grizzled superhero in 1930s New York City. Individuals with knowledge of the project have told the trades that the show will be set in its own universe and the main character will not be Peter Parker, meaning Cage would be playing a different Spider-Man.

That wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, but it does likely mean the show won't reinvent Peter's world with a noir backdrop. With or without Cage beneath the mask, creating a new character to web into action could ultimately hurt the series and runs the risk of alienating fans.

However, it's also Nic Cage playing Spider-Man, and that alone promises to be a huge draw!

It's worth noting that these comments come from Cage not long after reports he's met with Sony about playing Spider-Man Noir's lead, so this should be an interesting story to keep an eye on in the months ahead.

This is 1 of the many Sony projects that could actually work.

If this happens it needs to be so over the top that it goes underneath and back over the top a few more times. Also don't de-age the Cage, make him even older

I’m down with this in concept. But it’s still Sony’s live action division in control of it.

As much as I love Nic Cage , just no…

By trying to get him in the role , doesn’t that mean that he will be playing the live action version of his Spiderverse character and if so then that was clearly Peter Parker (even though it’s never explicitly stated in the film) since he was with the other variants right?.

Just doesn’t make sense to me as does doing Noir if they can’t use Peter Parker since the whole appeal is to see him & his world reinvented in a 1930’s backdrop.

Anyway , if they want to do this then i would gladly take it as an animated series or movie on Prime Video.

Now, this could be interesting. Uncle Nice never disappoints. It's just a bit sad that he's become the straight-to-DVD guy. But I guess coming out of that space to do something like RENFIELD(WHICH WAS SO FUN), he has his moments.

But this will be an exciting TV series.

At this point Sony has so many Spider-Verse stuffin the works, I think they should just make it an anthology show.

Each character they wanna do gets an episode, an eventually they come together in the inevitable Spider-Verse movie.

The only interesting live action idea they've had and the bed has been shat so hard and so heavy that the house is vacant.

This would sell 17 tickets globally.

The Golden Age of the CBM is officially deader than disco.

@SteelGunZ - that could be said for WBDC as well. Don’t forget the only successful popcorn film wb’s made in the past few years is Barbinheimer.

If Nic can get his buddy Edgar Wright to direct/write it, and Avi stays out of their way, I think it could be an interesting property.

It all really depends on who the creatives are and how much freedom they have. But judging by Dakota Johnson's remarks, Sony doesn't feel a studio that operates that way with their live action spideman films.

Can we just make sure Sony hires good writers and while we’re at it just fire every exec that wanted to pull the trigger on Morbius, madden Webb and any Sony Spider-Man spinoff movie made without Spider-Man. Venom is visually good but the pg13 rating and horrible plots are holding Venom back from being a great spinoff franchise.

Now this is a Sony spin off I can get behind.
Nic Cage as Spidey Noir?

We couldn’t get his Superman movie but we will definitely get his Spidey interpretation ?

Make it so

Cage is always great and if they got a solid director/writer and made it in the vein of LA Confidential this could be something special. Big swings like this are the next direction for comic book films, and if I was Sony, I'd go all in on an A-List writer and director and give everyone the finger.

Should be animated, but Sony is still too ambitious to realize the good thing they got in animation.

Cage is very hit-and-miss for me, it's why I believe doing voice acting for Noir fits better.
