Looks like Spider-Man 4 May be Officially Scrapped!

In an email from the VFX production company, the Spider-Man 4 crew are encouraged to look for other work.

We've recently heard news that the production start date for Spider-Man 4 was pushed back several months. That information along with the rumor Sam Raimi has been quarreling with Sony over the screenplay doesn't add up to good news for Spidey movie fans hoping for another sequel.

Nikki Finke just released this email that seems to solidify the peril that the production of Spider-Man 4 faces:

Hi there.

So, it’s official. “Spider-Man 4” has been pushed back several months, both the start of shooting and the release date.
At this time, we have no official start date, so I would encourage all of you to look for other work.
If/when the situation changes, either Rachelle, Spencer, or I will be in touch.
I apologize for the inconvenience.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Every time I come to this site i get good new and shitty Spidey news. These execs should Give it up. Just give the rights back to Marvel. This time around listen to what the fans have to say. Bring on Lizard and spend the money to get Gerard Butler as Kraven, and you have a 500 million dollar hit

These movies made too much money not to have some kind of Spidey movie in the next few years. It is a proven product and Hollywood never turns down a proven product!

So the execs are quarreling with Sam Raimi... AGAIN. If Avi Arad hadn't rammed Venom down his throat for Spidey 3, Raimi would have made a better film... you know, like the first 2 were.

there are many reasons why
this movie should never happen
they killed off venom
not even the real venom
but a mini venom
and why?
so the sandman could live on?
why not kill him like everyone else?
if they bring in the lizard
he'll die
if bruce campbell plays a villain
he'll die
then no more seeing him in every movie
i agree with letting marvel/disney
buy back the rights
so the movies can actually be entertaining
no more power ranger goblin suits
no more scrawny venom
no more emo parker
no more killing villains
no more villains realizing the error of their ways
moments before dying to help spiderman
no more villains knowing his secret identity
no more raimi!!!!!!!!
no more dunst
more gwen
bring on the black cat
i want to see a gritty dark carnage movie
with spidey and venom!!!
a lizard that will give nightmares
hobgoblin!!!!!
genius parker
cocky spiderman

multi@ so raimi wants vulture? epic fail in my book, if there going to do it then its kraven and lizard or dont bother at all but either way sm4's becoming a joke, from all the insane rumours to this.

I agree it will be made but I hope not with the Vulture/Vulturess crap we have heard. If that is what Rammi wants then please never let it see the screen. S3 was bad. Sandman killed Uncle Ben, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? As for Venom my only complaint was that he wasn't the main villian.

Eddie not being a huge muscle man didn't bother me. Having the suit affect Peter negatively was something that needed to be established so that viewers understood it was bad. Could have it been done in some other way than the black hair dance stuff? It could but I still don't find falt with that. It was just trying to be fun and homorous. I saw that movie opening day and the audience I saw it with thought it was funny.

The Venom origin was ok. I mean no one here can seriously say that the origin should have been like it was in the comics.

Venom should have been the spotlight of the flick. The studio had it right except for keeping the Sandman stuff. The whole Sandman part of S3 sucked. Instead we got Venom for 10 minutes at the end and his death. what a waste. Used properly Venom in S3 could have been a great set-up for Carnage. Oh well.

Again I would rather see no S4 rather than any of the crap we have read about so far.

Another spidey film would be as stupid and as pointless as Airplane II was. Raimi will just give us the same depressing spidey, who fights a villain that we're all supposed to feel sorry for, while trying to get the girl of his dreams even though she's a total b*tch. Repetition, Repetition, Repetition

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Okay so I didn't like the Vulture. But just because one or the other wanted/hated the character, doesn't mean you just scrap the whole movie!!! Spidey has a HUGE rouge list! You mean to tell me they can't decide on a villian?!?!? Get outta here!

Sony either do the movie or give up the rights!

You've been UNMASKED!

Multi@ already commented on it
good job

the more i think about the whole
vulture thing in SM4
the more it gets under my skin
seeing bruce campell as mysterio would
make more sense!
saying he was a failing actor
doing odd jobs for experience and $
then turning villain would explain him in the movies

we need the lizard!
we need a mary jane that's hot!!
black cat..... is there an actress alive that hot?

juggy - couldn't disagree with you more. Venom was the problem. If Raimi had stuck with Sandman and Osgoblin II we might have had a better story. Shoehorning Venom in is what killed the movie - no Venom, no need for cheesy, painfully unfunny (except in a bad way) emo shtick, no awful mess the franchise is currently in.

IF they were going to bring in Venom, they should have saved it for another movie, should have tied it in with ASTRONAUT John Jameson (we couldn't have the comic origin, no, but they could have tied it in with a space mission of some kind), at the same time expanding the story possibilities of John's future role (Man-Wolf Team-Up!) and having an actual damned story reason for introducing the otherwise ridiculous "random black thing dropping out of the sky for no good reason" we actually got. It was lazy, insulting and just plain bad. Face it.

Whatever they do, they need to sort this shit out. It's embarrassing.

Sub-contract it back to Marvel to make at the very least (even if Sony still fund it, handle the distribution and get the majority of the cut). It's the most common sense solution if Disneybags can't buy it back lock 'n' stock, which would be the preferred option for everyone except Sony I imagine.

multi@ very true man, but either way its a mess right now and with all the insane rumors flying around and now this things dont look positive, it will get made eventually tho but it remains to be seen if its any better than 3.

Best thing would be for Sony not to make another Spidey movie so that the rights went back to Marvel. Then hopefully we would get a good flick about 10 years from now.Since I don't believe Sony is dumb enough to let our favorite webhead go so the next best thing would be to reboot or requel Spidey like they did Hulk. New director, new actors.

I understand Raimi wants Vulture, but after Spiderman 3 I hate to say it, but I don't give a damn what Raimi wants.

The fact is Raimi was forced to put Venom in SM3 because the fans wanted him and the studio made him do this to make the fans happy. And like a spiteful child who didn’t get his way and then breaks his friend’s favorite toy, he vaporized Venom. He shit on the fans in that one moment. By doing that he basically told us this is MINE and I’ll not be told what to do with it. He shat on us in that moment. It was in that moment I was kind of over Sam Raimi.

It appears now he is again stamping his feet like a petulant child demanding to use the character HE wants; a character which the vast majority of the fan base has found irrelevant and silly for more than two decades.

I understand Raimi is a child of a previous decade when it comes to Spiderman, he loves the classic villains, and only a select few of those, but the fact remains the icons of the old guard have now been used up save for Lizard, Kraven, and Electro. If Raimi wants to do a film using these characters ; fine. Bu the sad truth is Raimi will flatly NOT use any of the later generation characters that most movie goers and comic fans of the last 20 years have come to know and love. This inflexibility and frankly spoiled attitude will cost the studio money, which is their bottom line, and further alienate the general fan base beyond the disrespect ladled onto us by his flippant disposing of modern fans favored villain.

To sum up I say this; if Raimi keeps it up the studio should cut him. He is by no means irreplaceable, and his films were not perfect by any measure anyway. The franchise needs new blood. It is screaming for it. If Sony knew what was good for it and the franchise they would cease placating Raimi, hire a new creative staff, recast the leads and continue forward with a new eye to Spiderman. I don’t hate Raimi, I thought Spidey 1 and 2 were good films, but I feel he has lost his way and is now being uncompromising. His time is done, he has had a decent run, but it’s time for someone else to have a turn.

@Kieth I agree with the Jameson idea. That would have been much better. But there would have been time for that setup minus the Sandman crap we got.

As for Sandman and Harry, no we would not have had a better story. We would still have got a BS Harrygoblin and a Sandman that was Uncle Ben's real killer. The Uncle Ben thing was the WORST part of S3. Far worse than "emo Peter". Face it.
