Sony Pictures has made another addition to the cast of the upcoming Madame Web movie, with Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Freaky star Celeste O'Connor signing on to star alongside Dakota Johnson in the title role. As per usual, details on O'Connor's character remain under wraps.

Based on the Marvel Comics series by Denny O’Neil and John Romita Jr., this latest "SPUMC" movie is being developed as an origin story for the clairvoyant, "whose psychic abilities allow her to see within the spider world." Very little had been revealed about the project beyond this, however.

Madame Web will also star Euphoria breakout Sydney Sweeney in an undisclosed role. S.J. Clarkson (The Defenders) will direct from a screenplay by Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.

O'Connor can currently be seen starring alongside Joey King in Paramount+’s The In Between, and also has MGM’s drama A Good Person, from writer-director Zach Braff, on the way.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of excitement for this one - especially after Morbius - but maybe the movie will prove to be a pleasant surprise.

Madame Web was recently given an official release date, and is set to hit theaters on July 7, 2023.

Sony is either brave or dumb for keeping these projects greenlit after the performance of Morbius.

I'm going to go with the latter.

Madame Web movie

the only way people are going to watch this is if they add Spider-Men to it.

But then wouldn't it just be a Spider-Man movie

I know I'm the only one, but I kinda look forward to this. And not even in th slowing down to look at a car crash kind of way.

I'm kinda hoping Kraven is gonna be in this to hunt the original Madame Web down for killing his wife and daughter, and Julia Carpenter tries to stop him.

Ofcourse that's not gonna be the case, and I'm fooling myself with thinking that's gonna be in the movie.

@bkmeijer1 - You might be the only one, but I will say at least it does not have Leto. Dakota should elevate it somewhat. You’d hope
