Sony Pictures has made another addition to the cast of the upcoming Madame Web movie, with Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Freaky star Celeste O'Connor signing on to star alongside Dakota Johnson in the title role. As per usual, details on O'Connor's character remain under wraps.
Based on the Marvel Comics series by Denny O’Neil and John Romita Jr., this latest "SPUMC" movie is being developed as an origin story for the clairvoyant, "whose psychic abilities allow her to see within the spider world." Very little had been revealed about the project beyond this, however.
Madame Web will also star Euphoria breakout Sydney Sweeney in an undisclosed role. S.J. Clarkson (The Defenders) will direct from a screenplay by Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.
O'Connor can currently be seen starring alongside Joey King in Paramount+’s The In Between, and also has MGM’s drama A Good Person, from writer-director Zach Braff, on the way.
There doesn't seem to be a lot of excitement for this one - especially after Morbius - but maybe the movie will prove to be a pleasant surprise.
Madame Web was recently given an official release date, and is set to hit theaters on July 7, 2023.
