As production continues on Sony Pictures' Madame Web movie, this latest photo from the New York set brings an intriguing new plot point to light.
Shared by the Spider-Man News Twitter account, the snap may not appear to reveal very much at first glance, but a closer look may give us a much better idea of what to expect from the story and how it brings this group of characters together.
As you can see, the cover of the Daily Bugle states: "Girls Feared Abducted." The accompanying photos aren't the clearest, but the trio pictured appear to be cast members Isabela Merced, Sydney Sweeney and Celeste O'Connor. Though their characters haven't been officially confirmed, a recent leak indicated that they're playing Anya Corazon, Julia Carpenter, and Mattie Franklin, respectively.
As for who did the abducting, we assume it's the villainous Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim). In the comics, Sims is believed to have acquired his abilities via some kind of occult ritual which granted him the powers of a Spider-Totem. Could he be attempting to somehow steal or syphon the powers of the three characters pictured above, perhaps?
That's pure speculation on our part, so be sure to let us know your theories in the comments down below.
The upcoming SPUMC movie will also star Dakota Johnson in the lead role of Cassandra Web. S.J. Clarkson (The Defenders) is directing from a screenplay by Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.
Madame Web was recently pushed back by almost three months from July 7 to October 6, 2023.
