The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

High in the rafters of the old warehouse crouches William Spencer, a 28-year-old skateboard legend with a cult following on YouTube.

Hired as Garfield’s stunt double, he is preparing to ride his board off a ramp to the concrete floor 30ft below. Fifty-thousand-watt lights give the illusion of daylight.

Garfield stands next to me watching intently. ‘I suppose I should be doing this out of solidarity for my double. After all, I came up with the idea!’

Garfield and Spencer have become great friends over the course of filming.

‘He’s cool,’ says Spencer. ‘And quite unlike all the actors with huge egos that you think he might be like. We earned each other’s respect. He says I am more famous than him, which is clearly ridiculous!’

The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Denis Leary, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field; the film swings into theaters July 3 in 3D!

I wonder if the writers, directors, and producers of this movie understand why Spidey wears a mask....

And damn Garfield and his stunt double look alike...I guess that is the point, if you are going to go without masks.

The fact that they are using actual actors for the web slinging shows. Like that one shot in the trailer of him under the railways swinging over policecars looked AMAZING

Yesss... its like Sam Raimi didn't even care that his character looked like a cartoon everytime he was in mid air which was so annoying and it distanced us from the action because of it, we minus well have been watching a cartoon, 'practical' is the way to go when shooting Spider-man swinging scenes, thank you Mark Webb!

I'm anticipating this film, a lot, but I have to stick up for Raimi a little. Just as the technology behind the CGI has improved over the past few years, so have the techniques that we use to do practical stunting. Definitely, I think it would have been possible to build these rigs 10 years ago, but I think that the guys who built them must've looked to the wirework of other modern films that had been coming out and been influenced by that. I mean, the CGI could've been better, but Raimi did have a lot of wirework in his films. My problem was that the wirework wasn't consistently good.

Anyway, these pictures look great. Some people have been complaining that Spider-man rides a skate board, but I think it's just something that'll be used to show how Peter's abilities effect him. I doubt he's going to be spending a lot of time looking for bike rails to grind on (mind the stupid, ignorant example from the peanut gallery that is my brain)
