Hot Toys has distinguished itself as a premier company for figures based on some of today's most popular blockbusters. Spider-Man: No Way Home is on the way (less than a month away, but really, who's counting?), and Hot Toys is hard at work on collectibles from the film. One of the figures the company announced recently is based on Peter Parker's black-and-gold suit.
The costume is an exciting variation on Spidey's classic look, so it's safe to say most of us were looking forward to seeing it represented in figure form. Normally, Hot Toys takes a long time to release its product (from one to three years, in fact), so most collectors weren't expecting to see this one for quite a while.
This Spider-Man is designated "MMS604" (Movie Masterpiece Series 604), meaning it's Hot Toys' 604th figure. What makes its early release particularly surprising — especially for those familiar with the company's lengthy production schedule — is that just a few months ago, it appeared as if the figure was in need of some updating.
Hot Toys announced the collectible in July of 2021, but the product the forearms and hands were the ones from Spidey's advanced suit:
Furthermore, the magic-effects accessories were blue. As has been shown in trailers and promotional material for No Way Home, however, the gloves on the costume are black, and the magical light that it emits is gold/yellow.
Fans called out the gloves' wrong color when pictures of the figure were released online. While it's unclear whether this had any influence on Hot Toys making changes to the product, the company updated the costume's forearms and power effects to be as screen-accurate as possible in record time.
Spider-Man: No Way Home will swing into theaters on December 17, 2021.
