SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Extended Cut Rumored For Theatrical Release This March

Spider-Man: No Way Home has grossed over $1.8 billion at the worldwide box office, but will an extended cut be enough to help the movie surpass the $2 billion mark? Rumour has it that one is on the way...

Spider-Man: No Way Home has found unprecedented box office success in the "pandemic era," even going so far as to beat Avatar's domestic total to become the third-highest grossing movie of all time. Takings are slowing down at this point, though, and it doesn't seem likely that the first meeting of the three big screen Spider-Men will be able to hit the $2 billion mark.

However, that could change with an upcoming re-release. A Reddit user recently claimed that an extended cut of Spider-Man: No Way Home will be released there in the second week of March, while the page's moderators later corroborated his post by saying it could hit U.S. theaters on March 11.

There's a precedent for this because Sony Pictures re-released Spider-Man: Far From Home two months after its initial opening. It included a brand new, four-minute action scene and box office revenue surged by 153.2% that weekend. That still only generated $5.4 million in North America over the Labor Day holiday, so whether this could help No Way Home soar to $2 billion is hard to say.

It's certainly possible, and new footage of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men would definitely entice moviegoers back (as would a new post-credits scene to replace the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness teaser trailer). We'll see, but these re-release plans for Spider-Man: No Way Home could explain why the Blu-ray still doesn't have an official release date.

If this information is correct, we can probably expect an official announcement in the coming weeks.
