SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Star Tom Holland Ponders His Marvel Future And Whether It's Time For Miles Morales

Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland admits that his time as Peter Parker could be nearing an end sooner than anticipated, saying "If I’m playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong."

Tom Holland was cast as Peter Parker way back in 2015, and while we know his current contract ends with Spider-Man: No Way Home, the hope among fans is that he's in it for the long haul with this role. Unfortunately, it sounds like the actor may be having his doubts if his comments from a  recent GQ profile are any indication.

Veteran producer Amy Pascal tells the site, "I’ve talked to him about doing, like, 100 more. I’m never going to make Spider-Man movies without him. Are you kidding me?"

Unfortunately, she might not have a choice. "Maybe it is time for me to move on," Holland ponders when asked about his Marvel future. "Maybe what’s best for Spider-Man is that they do a Miles Morales film. I have to take Peter Parker into account as well, because he is an important part of my life. If I’m playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong."

That's a little ominous considering Holland is now 25, though with ambitions to direct and star in more than just superhero blockbusters, it's easy to understand why he doesn't want to be Spider-Man forever. Regardless, these comments appear to leave us with only a finite number of stories with this iteration of Peter Parker, though Holland would later admit that he'd consider another trilogy.

"I might start shooting The Crowded Room and go, ‘You know what, this is what I’m going to do for the rest of my life.’ Or I might do Spider-Man 4, 5, and 6, finish when I’m 32, and never make another," he admits. "I’m not sure what I want to do."

If Peter's story does end in the MCU, then Miles Morales feels like the natural next step in many ways. That character has found great success and popularity in the likes of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and the Spider-Man: Miles Morales video game, though we do hope Holland isn't ready to pass the baton to that wall-crawler quite yet.

It feels a lot like we'll have to wait and see, as not even the actor himself seems too sure about his future. It's always possible this is just a public negotiating tactic to secure a huge new deal for future appearances as Spider-Man, of course, but we'll try not to be too cynical about that...

Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives in U.S. on December 17 and in the UK on December 15.
