SPIDER-MAN Composer Danny Elfman Faces Sexual Abuse Accusations From A Second Woman

A second woman has come forward with accusations that Danny Elfman sexually harassed and assaulted her between 1997 and 2002, claiming he allegedly masturbated while she slept next to him.

Oscar-nominated and Grammy-winning composer Danny Elfman has been accused of sexual abuse by a second woman.

In documents filed Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court, a woman in Maryland going by Jane Doe XX alleges that the Spider-Man composer sexually abused her from 1997 to 2002. According to the filings, the plaintiff allegedly met the 47-year-old Elfman at a party in April of 1997 when she was a 21-year-old student at the New York Academy.

The two would become friendly and develop a relationship that the plaintiff hoped would boost her own music career. She frequently attended industry events with Elfman, and court documents claim that Elfman treated her as "a consultant and protegé," asking her opinions on films and music.

According to the suit, one night in a hotel room, Elfman removed his clothing until he was completely nude and walked around nude in front of the Plaintiff, exposing his genitals. This sort of behavior would become a regular occurrence when the two were together over the course of the next five years with Elfman removing his clothing "until he was completely nude, and walked around nude in front of Plaintiff, exposing his genitals. Defendant Elfman expressed to Plaintiff that this was the only way he could work, be creative and successful.”

The Plaintiff felt "she had no choice but to always comply with his requests," due to Elfman's prominence in the entertainment industry. She would often visit Elfman at his home and would even spend nights in Elfman's bed, keeping her clothes on and sleeping above the covers while he was naked. According to the suit, Elfman revealed to her in 2002, "Every time you have ever slept next to me, I would masturbate next to you."

That revelation resulted in Jane Doe XX ending the relationship while suffering from "shock, humiliation and shame"

She is suing Elfman and his company, Musica de la Muerta, for sexual assault, gender violence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, sexual harassment and negligence.

A spokesperson for Elfman denied the allegations and offered the following statement when asked for comment:

“The allegations of misconduct made against Mr. Elfman are baseless and absurd. His legal team is assessing all options and he will vigorously defend these claims in court.”

This is the second time Elfman has been accused of sexual abuse and harassment. In 2018, composer Nomi Abadi filed a lawsuit alleging that Elfman exposed himself and masturbated in front of her without her consent on several occasions. Elfman ultimately entered into a settlement and nondisclosure agreement with Abadi, but denied that he sexually harassed Abadi. Abadi sued Elfman in July for failure to pay on the settlement reached in 2018.

Elfman is one of Hollywood's most prominent composers, having worked with directors Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands, Wednesday, The Nightmare Before Christmas) and Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness). During his career he's received four Oscar nominations, two Emmy Awards, and a Grammy.

It sure sounded a lot like the woman could have just left him alone in the first place…. How are you an adult and put yourself in these positions you cant get yourself out of then play victim not only to friend and family but to a judge and the entire world. Yeah, this definitely isnt about the money….

If you're going to (later) accuse someone of sexual abuse; don't 'get naked' with them because you see them as a "valuable mentor."

Walk out immediately and burn-them-down. Then-and-there.

If you stay in that room, you've chosen a potential career advantage over a seedy old-man's disgusting behaviour.

@BillyBatson1000 - 'don't 'get naked' with them because you see them as a "valuable mentor."'

She didn't 'get naked' with him. He got naked with her. That said, as a certified deputy in the Twitter Cancel Culture Mob . . . yeah, this is at least partially on her. Elfman's clearly a creep, and uneven power dynamics are a mother, but she had lots and lots of low-stakes opportunities to get out.

Not so say she doesn't have every right to pursue justice, of course, because, again, Elfman is clearly a [frick]ing creep, and exploited his status to get his rocks off with a subordinate without her consent.

@ClintThaHamster - i'm basing my take on this quote. "First, she alleged, he would routinely take off all his clothing in her presence and asked her to strip naked too – a request she agreed to because she saw him as a valuable mentor and “always felt the imbalance of power and pressure to act a certain way … [as] a condition of their continued relationship”."

Up to this point - I was a fan of the guy. Loved his Batman/Edward Scissorhands scores.

@BillyBatson1000 - ah, I missed that part. Mea culpa. I'll maintain that power dynamics can [frick] folks up, and I still believe she was wronged. But I wouldn't blame a jury for letting Elfman off the hook.

@ClintThaHamster - Exactly, I understand the desperation for fame/success, that dynamic is like a spider's web. But (assuming this is true) if she'd left immediately and called him out, she would have avoided worse behaviour and been instrumental in stopping him. Now, he'll likely get a slap-on-the-wrist (fine) and go on to reoffend.

I don't care.

I'll be over here listening to the Batman '89 Soundtrack. That ending theme still hits hard.

@bl0odwerk - "This sort of behavior would become a regular occurrence when the two were together over the course of the next FIVE YEARS."

Sure, she was so bothered by it, she put up with it for FIVE YEARS, then waited another TWENTY ONE YEARS to complain about it. *eye roll*

I'm not saying this didn't happen, because this is literally a he said/she said, but why wait 20+ years to bring this up?

The whole story sounds sketchy in general, and the statute of limitations for sexual harassment in NY is 3 years.
If her lawyer is gonna try to stretch this and say it was a sexual assault, the statute is 20 years in NY.

I'm sure Elfman is no saint, but this story and the timing seems fishy imo.

Uninteresting allegations. Looks like a plaintiff's lawyer urging his/her client to score some money. Danny Elfman has bigger issues, such as his wife, Bridget Fonda. "Louissssssssssssss"
