Spider-Man Finalists Have Just Finished Screen Tests

Sony is close to finding new Spider-Man. Many of the reportedly eight finalists considered for the role have screen tested.

Deadline is reporting that Sony's Columbia Pictures is close to casting Peter Parker. Friday, studio decision-makers viewed the screen tests of most of the young actors that are supposedly in contention to play your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. The Marc Webb directed reboot is scheduled to hit the big screen in July of 2012

Of the eight actors, six screen tested and they are:

Jamie Bell (King Kong, Jumper)

Anton Yelchin (Star Trek)

Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass)

Andrew Garfield (The Social Network),

Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief)

Alden Ehrenreich (Tetro)

It is not known if Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince) and Michael Angerano (Lords of Dogtown) have screen tested. Supposedly Dillane is going to London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and chose not to test.

The studio wants to get their choice nailed down soon so supporting actors can begin to be cast as well. Production will begin before the year ends. The script by Jamie Vanderbilt is still being worked on, and (500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb is gearing up for a 3D shoot.

Other actors, namely Josh Hutcherson, have been on other lists. Deadline did not comment on his status whatsoever.

Angerano has done Sky High, so he has the super hero part down, and he has done forbidden kingdom which covers the action aspect. I think he is the best choice. A few of them have franchises already

That Frank Dillane kid looks way too SERIOUS looking to play him. We need an American Actor to play him, we can't have all the good roles taken away by Brit's

Awesome, this shortlist looks almost as if Marc Webb and Sony were lurking IMDB's messageboards when they were searching for actors lol.

I have great faith in Webb, he may have only one film to his name and a load of Music Videos, but Music Videos have some amazing looks to them. Webb may make this feel very cinematic and not just a simple 3 act story

I gotta imagine Jamie Bell and Andrew Garfield are too old for the role. One will be 26 when the first movie comes out and the other will be 28.Toby Maguire was almost 27 when Spider-Man 1 came out, and he aged out of that role in barely three films. And it seems like they intend to keep this Spider-Man in high school throughout the series. With about three years between films, I'm thinking they'd want to find an actor under 21.

I say keep lurking these fan forums and your adaptations might get even better over time hollywood, lol. Especially Sony and Webb who seem to be lurking these sites a good bit.

Hmm..I'm beginning to become interested in the reboot. Raimi's plan with 4, 5, and 6 were mediocre at best.

I'll say it before LEEE, this reboot is just wrong. But that's not the subject so doesn't matter Anyway the only one from that list that I would like to see as Peter Perker is Aaron Johnson or maybe, just maybe, Michael Angerano.

I'd be fine with any of the ones in the top row (except I don't know if Johnson would play Peter Parker so soon after he just played Dave Lizewski). I don't really like any of the ones in the bottom row. Ehrenreich and Dillane don't look like Peter IMO and I've never seen them act, nor have I seen Garfield act. Angarano kind of annoys me.

But 4/8 aren't bad odds. So I basically have a 50/50 shot of liking the person they cast as Spidey (assuming he comes from this list).

i doubt it will be aaron johnson or anton yelchin cause star trek and kickass 2 is coming out 2012? so from the list im guessing its logan lerman if arangano didnt test :))

Kick Ass 2 could be a problem for Johnson, but I don't know if Trek 2 would be one for Yelchin. His part was pretty small in Trek 1, so unless Chekov has an expanded role in the sequel, he may be able to fit Spidey in his schedule. I'm just speculating though, of course.

Thanks for the update TANKGIRL! I'm still hoping that whoever is chosen is either right for the role or is someone who isn't even on the list. And if casting for the supporting characters begins then I better hurry with some of my casting editorials as soon as possible, but not to rush though. Thanks again.

@tankgirl nice find!! I had no idea Logan Lerman was still in the running...good to know! I will be interested in seeing who they will pick...(please anyone but Jamie Bell!!! Loved him in Jumper but hes too old to be High School age Spidey!!) Logan Lerman I think would play Spidey justice...however, Michael Angerano would as well...Aaron Johnson IS Kick-Ass, not Spidey even tho he plays the perfect geek and the rest are just...meh.
On a totally unrelated note, very cool avatar!

It would be funny if they got Johnson to be Parker and got Lyndsy Fonseca to be MJ (I wouldn't be opposed to the latter, she was great in Kick Ass and is hot as hell). Then all they'd need would be Nic Cage as Norman ;)
