Pavitr Prabhakar, better known as Spider-Man India, will be voiced by actor Karan Soni, in Sony's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Comic book fans will most likely remember Soni from his turn portraying Dopinder in Deadpool and Deadpool 2. Soni's previous voice work includes his portrayal of Riff in Trolls World Tour and Caspian in Strange World.

Spider-Man India first appeared in the pages of Marvel Comics in  Spider-Man: India #1 (January 2005).  Unlike Peter Parker, Prabhakar gained his spider-like powers from an ancient, mystical yogi.

Soni's casting was first reported by One Take News and subsequently verified by The Hollywood Reporter.

Soni will join a talented cast that already  includes:

  • Shameik Moore as Miles Morales
  • Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy
  • Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker
  • Oscar Isaac as Miguel O'Hara
  • Issa Rae as Jessica Drew
  • Daniel Kaluuya as Hobart "Hobie" Brown (Spider-Punk)
  • Jason Schwartzman as the villainous Jonathan Ohnn aka the Spot

In addition to the Spidey variants mentioned above, Scarlet Spider, Spider-Byte, Japanese Spider-Man, Insomniac Games' Spider-Man from the recent PS5 video game, Spider-Man Unlimited Spider-Man, the Doc Ock's Superior Spider-Man, Old-Man Peter Parker and several more alternate versions of Peter Parker are slated to appear in some form or fashion.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will hit North American theaters on June 2, 2023.  It will compete against Fast X which opens two weeks prior and The Little Mermaid which hits theaters the week before.  The film's box office longevity will also be challenged by Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (June 9) and The Flash (June 16).

After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn's full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. However, when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders. He must soon redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

He was great in Deadpool, but for some reason I remember him most from his random cameo in Aunty Donna's Funhouse as Jerry Seinfeld.

Question....does he call himself "Spider-Man India" or is that just the title to separate him the other Spider-Men? Calling yourself "Spider-Man India" seems as silly as Peter Parker calling himself "Spider-Man USA"
