Spider-Man: Brand New Day Passes $700 Million At The Domestic Box Office - Will It Break Star Wars' Record?

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will pass $700 million at the North American box office later today, and as things stand, there's a good chance it will eventually swing past Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Only six movies have reached $700 million at the domestic box office, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day has now become the seventh. While we're waiting on updated numbers, the movie matched its $17 million haul from Monday to Tuesday, which is bargain ticket day.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will swing beyond $700 million today, Wednesday, August 12, becoming the fourth MCU movie to do so after Black Panther ($700.4 million), Spider-Man: No Way Home ($814.8 million), and Avengers: Endgame ($858.3 million).

With an expected $50+ million lead over Avengers: Endgame at the same point in its run, the wall-crawler's latest movie is definitely going to reach $900 million in North America. Will it challenge Star Wars: The Force Awakens' $936.6 million haul to become the biggest blockbuster ever in U.S. history? Could it even become the first to reach $1 billion stateside? It's too soon to say, but neither outcome is impossible.

Heading into its third weekend, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will remain at #1 with an estimated $57 million to $72 million. The best third weekend ever belongs to The Force Awakens with a massive $90.2 million, so Spidey likely won't beat that record.

However, with such strong weekdays, the sky is the limit for Peter Parker. After scoring the biggest second Monday ever, Spider-Man: Brand New Day also webbed up the biggest second Tuesday, which is a spectacular result.

Elsewhere at the box office, The End of Oak Street will open at #2 this weekend with a predicted $20 million to $25 million debut. PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie is another new title, but it also won't bother Spidey, with an expected opening in the mid- to high-teens.

In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it's a Brand New Day for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control.

But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves - a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.

In our review, we concluded by saying, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day is everything fans could want. Emotional, hilarious, and heartfelt, it’s an action-packed love letter to the comics and one of Spidey’s best big-screen adventures. Spider-Man has never been more amazing."

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now playing in theaters.

@NotMyDiagnosis - This movie did so well in part due to the 5 year gap between it and the previous movie, so they might not rush into the next one as a result of this. With that said, I think the chances of a Shang Chi 2 happening get smaller each year nothing is announced.

Get ready for James Gunn's DC Crime with James Gunn's Jimmy Olsen and James Gunn's Gorilla Grodd to destroy this in popularity. Spiderman? Who is that? We have Jimmy Olsen.

Reboot the MCU and DCU
