Spider-Man: Brand New Day Star Michael Mando Confirms "Venomized" Scorpion Talks - Spoilers

In a new interview, Michael Mando discusses his return as Mac Gargan in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and what could be next for the character...

The rumors that Michael Mando was set to reprise his Spider-Man: Homecoming role as Mac Gargan in Spider-Man: Brand New Day were confirmed shortly after filming began, but the character didn't end up being utilized in quite the way we expected.

If you haven't seen the movie yet, spoilers follow.

The Scorpion featured in a couple of scenes - including an exciting battle against the wall-crawler - but he was actually being controlled by Jean Grey (Sadie Sink) for most of his screen time.

“Destin showed clips of Sadie to everybody [as a voice and performance reference]. Then I met her, and I instantly knew that this was someone I wanted to see win. She has such a natural, kind quality, and I really resonated with her character’s desire to want to save her sister,” Mando tells THR. “I’ve always imagined that Mac Gargan has also gone through deep tragedy and sees the DODC as corrupt. So [Mac and Jean Grey] have a lot in common, and it was fun finding the nuances in that.”

In the comics, Gargan served as the third host of the Venom symbiote when he posed as Spider-Man as a member of the Dark Avengers. Rumors had claimed that Brand New Day would feature a symbiote, but it wasn't to be,

However, Mando has now confirmed that he did have discussions with director Destin Daniel Cretton about Gargan's future and the possibility of becoming "Venomized" in a future project.

“The potential growth of [Mac Gargan] is enormous. Brand New Day is level one of this character’s potential, and he has at least two or three levels up from here, one of them being the ultimate form of Venom. That’s exciting to think about for a moment, but I’ve got to let it go because it’s in the hands of Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal. They know what they’re doing, and I have to trust that.”

A fifth Spider-Man movie seems inevitable after the massive box office success of Brand New Day, but we're not sure Scorpion - Venomized or otherwise - would ever really be viewed as a primary antagonist for Spidey. That doesn't mean we won't be seeing Gargan again in some capacity, of course.

Following the record-breaking success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man: Brand New Day begins a brand new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult and living alone after erasing himself and the memories of him from those he loves. In a New York that no longer knows his name, he has devoted himself wholeheartedly to protecting his city as Spider-Man full-time.

But as the demands on him grow, he is put under increasing pressure. This triggers an unexpected physical change that threatens his existence, while a strange wave of crime emerges - and gives rise to one of the most dangerous threats he has ever faced.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers. The film is produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Rachel O'Connor. The cast includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now in theaters.

Seems like the route they will go. This iteration of Spider-Man seems to not be interested at all in doing characters/villains that have previous been done...unfortunately

@BlackStar25 - This is why I'm not a huge fan of the MCU Spider-Man.

@BlackStar25 - I think Feige has even said that is the case unfortunately but one can always hope for a MCU Norman or Ock.

@BlackStar25 - Def felt like Bruce Banner/Hulk could've been Curt Conners/Lizard instead, but prob still too close to No Way Home for audiences to forget about that version. Hopefully those classic Spidey villains will make their way into the MCU post-Secret Wars tho.

Since that is the direction this universe is going I am good with it. Also would give Michael Mando a chance to shine. No doubts he would kill it as the Mac Gargan Venom

Spiderman is dumb.
Superboy Prime would rip Spidey in half. Period.

Personally, I’d love MCU Venom to be Gargan. And I’m a big Eddie Brock fan.

Gargan having been around and thwarted by Spidey since Homecoming sounds way more appealing to me to get the symbiote than a new character introduced in the next movie that will develop a hatred for Peter. Especially because I want Black Cat in the next movie, and you know they’re going to throw in one or two Avengers for the first time to interact with Peter (probably Johnny Storm and then a minor cameo by someone like Ant-Man).

Him using his tail to do a spinning power kick was cool. If he was going to be an actual character in these this woulda been the movie

Yeah Scorpion was a nothing burger in this one. As expected but still pretty disappointing.

Nope. Make Spider-Man 5 Spidey and Venom vs Knull. The Symbiote from No Way Home attaches itself to Peter for Secret Wars and Knull breaks free and tries to eliminate every symbiote including the one on Peter. Somehow Eddies connection to that symbiote has him travel to 616 and they both fight Knull.

@KineticAce - Nothing from the Sonyverse should crossover with MCU.

@KineticAce - there are literally 20 Spider-Man villains I'd rather see than Knull. No thanks.

@TheRationalNerd - Yeah. Eddie was my absolute Go-to for Venom.

I like Mando as an actor, but I'd rather see him as Scorpion a little longer. YFNSM got it right.
TheVisionary25

I feel like he’s more hoping he becomes “Venomized” rather then there being any official discussions about it happening…

Anyway , Mando’s only had a brief presence in the MCU as Mac Gargan but he’s done well in his small role so far.

I don’t think Scorpion makes sense to be the big villain for a whole film but Gargan as Venom could work especially since I think Mando would do well by leaning into the menace & intensity of that version of the character!!.
