Spider-Man: Brand New Day can't stop breaking records, as the web-slinger has just scored the biggest Wednesday of all-time at the North American box office with $33 million.
That lifts its domestic total to $482 million, and today, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will make history...again. As things stand, the Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios co-production is on track to hit $500 million faster than any movie in history, and that's just made things particularly interesting in terms of how it compares to Avengers: Endgame.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day beat the Infinity Saga finale's opening weekend by just $2.9 million, but a week into its run in theaters, it's now $30 million ahead of where the 2019 movie was at the same point. For context, Avengers: Endgame finished its run in the U.S. with $858 million.
While the web-slinger's latest solo outing is unlikely to bother Avengers: Endgame's global cume, it should surpass $1.7 billion this weekend and, at the very least, is expected to swing beyond Star Wars: The Force Awakens' $2 billion haul.
From there, it will need to have serious legs to surpass Titanic ($2.26 billion), Ne Zha 2 ($2.27 billion), and Avatar: The Way of Water ($2.3 billion). However, there's every chance Spider-Man: Brand New Day ends up the third highest-grossing movie ever behind only Avatar ($2.9 billion) and Avengers: Endgame ($2.799 billion).
"We knew we couldn’t go bigger than three Spider-Mans, so we had to go deeper with Peter Parker," Spider-Man franchise producer Amy Pascal recently told Deadline. "And the truth is that every time with my partner, Marvel’s Kevin Feige, my producing partner Rachel O’Connor, whenever we sit down to decide, to think about what the next movie should be, we always think about what the Peter Parker story should be."
"And it really is about focusing more on Peter than Spider-Man, which makes a good movie," she added. "I love working with Kevin, Marvel and [Marvel co-president] Lou [D’Esposito] and all those guys. It’s such a wonderful partnership, and I think we always put Peter first, and that’s why it works."
