THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Cast Interviews; Garfield Has 'Nothing To Do with' Fourth Film (Yet)

Admitting there was something missing from the first movie, the cast of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 discuss the sequel while star Andrew Garfield implies he won't be involved with the fourth installment.

“I sat with [screenwriters] Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman in a restaurant for lunch in New York, and they pitched me this movie… And I was crying” Garfield told Yahoo! of Amazing Spider-Man 2. “I'm an easy crier, but I was really emotionally moved by what they said to me. And I think a lot of my emotion was because these two guys love the character as much as I do. I think there was something missing in the first one because our focus wasn’t on character as much we were trying to keep a number of plates spinning in the air – How can we reintroduce the character? How do we not upset this guy or this guy? That was a tough wasteland we had to move through,” the British actor added.

“You know the first time we had to deal with the origin story which was fun, but tricky. This time around the flood gates opened for all of us,” admits director Marc Webb. “We got to explore things that just hadn’t been explored cinematically before. Whether it’s Electro you know, or more the story with Gwen…” He adds, “This time around we’ve really focused on making this a driving action movie from the get go.” On Gwen and Peter’s romance, Emma Stone says, “They’re struggling with some things. There’s a lot of tension there’s a lot going on.”

As there's a third and fourth Amazing Spider-Man film scheduled for releases in May 2016 and May 2018 respectively, where is the franchise headed? “We did think about these movies from the very beginning as a series of movies,” says Webb. “Really a trilogy to be totally frank.” Garfield, however, is not sure his neighborhood friendly hero will be involved in the fourth movie . “I mean I’m under contract for another one after this… as far as a fourth one? That’s not anything to do with me. But yeah, I think what we’re doing here is we’ve established the world. And now we get to really play inside that world. Use our imagination, and kind of expand. That’s what this film is,” he added. It's possible Garfield's contract will be renewed, but perhaps the fourth film is actually one of the spin-offs which Sony producers teased recently. What do you think?

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

Directed by Marc Webb, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is scheduled for release on May 2, 2014!

Andrew Garfield is one of my favorite actors portraying a character from a comic book ever. I don't think he gets enough credit, because he literally NAILED the Peter Parker and Spider-Man role and made his own. I sincerily hope that he is playing ball here and if the story is good and he has a passion going for it, he'll give another go with a 4th installment, even a whole new trilogy after this one. He can easily play Spider-Man with 25 years old by the time they get to the 4th film.

A Spider-Man fan can hope.

Andrew Garfield needs to get work that isn't Spider-man. He's a great actor, and has an entire career ahead of him. Can he be replaced for a fourth movie? Absolutely.

Superior Spiderman for part 4? I'd prefer Miguel O'Hara.

While this, The Amazing Spider-Man 2's trailer is literally OWNING all the other trailers for The Winter Soldier and Days of Future Past in terms of youtube viewings, with astounding 18 million viewings and counting. For sake of comparison, The Winter Soldier was the first to be released and it has 23 million views so far.

Maybe they'll spin off with Venom for the 4th movie? That'd be cool as hell.

I really like Garfield as Peter Parker. You can see more of the dark humour that he should have, and he's sarcastic with villians, which is perfect. Hopefully he will return in the 4th movie.

As long as they don't go the Superior Spiderman route and kill him off putting Doc Ock in the suit.

This needs to be handled like James Bond. I get the feeling that is what they may be doing, just keeping it hush hush.

If Garfield isn't coming back after 3, then maybe it's so they can keep the established universe, and continue on with a new actor.

But I can't see why they would want to do this, especially Garfield. Who would get tired of being Spider-Man?

I like Miles, but I hope not. I want to see Andrew Garfield for as many films as Hugh Jackman. Garfield was literally born to play the role, and I believe that after TASM2, he will finally get the recognition he deserves.

After a batch of six films and he getting a shitload of money playing his favorite superhero for a living, he can retire.

Honestly, I love Andrew Garfield as Spidey but I kinda hope they follow along with the Ultimate storyline so they kill him off and it actually means something. It certainly looks like they're heading that way with all the nods to the Sinister Six too.

I don't take that quote to mean he won't be back, just that he wouldn't be involved in the decision to have him back, but that would be up to the studio/director
