Was Robert Pattinson Really Up For "Spider-Man"?

In a new interview with Andrew Garfield, it seems that his "Twilight" buddy Robert Pattinson may have in fact been in contention to play Spider-Man...

Andrew Garfield has now made his claim to fame as playing Peter Parker in the upcoming "Spider-Man" reboot, as well as earning major praise, uncluding Oscar buzz, for his role as Eduardo Saverin in David Fincher's latest "The Social Network". But Garfield is also part of what is called "The Brit Pack", which is lead by "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson.

According to the Wonder Wall, Garfield "insists there is no animosity between himself and Pattinson over the decision (that Garfield play Spider-Man over Pattinson) - and he has vowed to support his pal's career". Quote on quote he told Britain's ShortList Magazine.

Andrew also said: "I don't see it that way (as a competition). Rob's a friend of mine and I care about him a lot. We're very supportive of each other."

When rumors broke that Sony was considering Robert Pattinson to play Peter Parker, we all just dismissed it as ridiculous tabloid rumors. But being as Garfield talked as if Rob was in fact in the mix at one point, and seemingly talked about it with him, maybe we really could have seen Edward Cullen take up the iconic Spider-Man role.

"Spider-Man" will be released on July 3, 2012, directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Rhys Ifans. The film will be released in 3D.

whew... i am soooooo glad at least we didn't get him... not saying that he might be an alright guy but honestly he's got a big franchise under his belt now so there is no reason 4 him to don on the spidey mask... and sides i just don't think he as too much of the peter parker look... idk why he doesn't look like peter but something just isn't right... whatever still not too happy about garfield either but what ever time will tell...

I hope they have a really good script for Spidey cuz Garfield seems so dull, and I need some humor in this movie.

If they ever cast Rob Pattinson it would have been for the sake of making the movie tween friendlier and to pick up a mass market of female fans. He doesnt have a few good movies wrapped under his belt like Garfield does. Plus Garfield looks the part more than Pattinson.
