The folks from Entertainment Weekly, as well other reliable sources, are reporting that Oscar-nominated actor Laurence Fishburne is rounding out the star-studded cast of Zack Snyder's 'Superman' reboot, Man Of Steel. Filling in the shoes of Daily Planet editor-in-chief, Perry White, the site states verbatim:

Lois Lane and Clark Kent just got their boss: Laurence Fishburne will play Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White in Man of Steel, EW has learned exclusively. White has traditionally been a hard-charging, old fashioned newspaperman, who relies on his ace reporters, Clark and Lois, to get the big scoop.

Laurence Fishburne, 50, gave an Oscar-nominated performance as 'Ike Turner' in What's Love Got to Do With It, alongside leading actress Angela Bassett. And hes also appeared in The Matrix, Mystic River and Apocalypse Now.

Like EW suggests, Perry White is the abrasive, old-school newsman who lords over the the Daily Planet. However, while Fishburne is evidently African-American, in the comics, the character is portrayed as a Caucasian. What do you think?

Man Of Steel, under Zack Snyder's direction, stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Julia Ormond, Russell Crowe with Christopher Meloni & Harry Lennix. And the reboot is slated for theaters June 14, 2013!

This is stupid as hell. First Spider-Man...now Perry???

Fishburne is a great actor...but why does every race have to become African-American? If they wanted to ignore a character's race and change it altogether, there are plenty of other races to choose from.

Still though nice to hear Perry is in the film at least.

Why is it such a big deal that he's black? Perry's not that important a character and doesn't have any specific image in comics. Changing his race means nothing. The cast needs more colour anyway.

This is great casting! Its like Daredevil; Michael clark Duncan as Kingpin. Eventhough there was a race change, he did a great interpretation!

Let's just go ahead and change Jimmy's race and Lex's race (if they are even in this)

For 71 years Perry has been a specific race...to suddenly CHANGE it and to NOT expect fans to get a little upset over it is silly of the two of you.

that's for a comic book, this is for film, even then it's not a big deal. Could it just be that he was the best actor for the part? same way as Elba was for Heimdall?

The difference being Blade has an iconic image as a titular character. Perry White has no specific iconic image, as well as being a supporting character.

They are not obsessed with diversifying races, YOU ARE. They are obsessed with finding the best person for the role, who in this case happens to be a black guy. Get it? Got it. Good.

Do you honestly think Snyder took time out of his day, while working on the script for Superman, scouting for locations, doing pre-viz etc. and went online yesterday, found out the new Spidey is black, then called his casting director and told him, "screw all the other choices, did you see what Marvel did? Nah, [frick] that, throw out all choices for Perry White, fire the guy we've been contacting GET ME A BLACK DUDE!"? REALLY?!

no disrespect, Selina, and i like to think and hope that i'm by no means racist, but i can see the uproar in this and other movies. Alicia in FF, Heimdal in Thor and even to a lessor extent Fury in the Marvel-verse- changing a character solely for the purpose of attracting a more diverse audience. Alicia has ALWAYS been the white gf of The Thing (tho i could argue 'more power to him for having an open mind')... Heimdal- i love Idris Elba, but waver on casting him as a tradionally NORDIC legend... he did well, but still it felt wrong. Fury- well, damn, i do love SLJ and he is a badass Fury (heck we'd all be better than the Hoff)... i am no fan of Supes, but Perry White has always been this old, white, curmudeon newspaper man. this one, of all the ones i mention, to me just sort of screams "let's try to attract a more diverse audience"... THAT being said (and call me wish-washy on this post)... until i see the movie (on DVD).. maybe they're updating all-around, since the newspaper industry as a whole is kind of fading, perhaps THIS incarnation of White will be not so news-papery and more internet/.com type guy ... and i'm just expressing my opinion, i certainly respect yours

If anything this is good news. It would be great to see more culturally diverse actors im CBM. I would love to see another Spanish superhero besides zorro. But bc of the extremely stereotypical society we live in, he would Have to be of Mexican influence, as if the other latin culturesmdont exist lmao.
