Man of Steel: Bryan Singer's Version?

IESB has posted a story that is purported to be a summary of Bryan Singer's intended sequel to Superman Returns, Man of Steel.

Picking up on plot threads from Superman Returns, the story postulates that the crystal continent Superman threw into space has become a near-perfect sphere dubbed New Krypton, which is visible from earth like the moon. This satellite draws in the attention of another apparent survivor from Krypton, who is befriended by Superman and ultimately "replaces" him in the hearts of the people because he has introduced advanced technology, despite the Man of Steel's insistance he not interfere with human development.

Not surprisingly, things aren't as they appear to be.

"Superman starts getting a bit suspicious of Krypto buddy and decides to go talk to him," offers the article. "He goes to his spaceship and has a revelation. This massive ship is full of hundreds if not thousands of identical bodies aboard, yep, clones of Krypto buddy, in stasis. So Superman digs a bit more inside the computer system, which is familiar to him since it's Kryptonian technology just like the Fortress of Solitude. Superman finds out that Krypto buddy is actually an artificial intelligence from Krypton that has evolved since the destruction of their world. He escaped Krypton just like Kal-El did and his real name is Brainiac. He has been going from planet to planet, taking their technology, helping these worlds reach a relative perfection and then he destroys them and moves on.

"Superman also finds out that he was actually responsible for the destruction of Krypton and tries to warn the leaders of the world but is confronted by Braniac. A massive battle ensues and Superman is about to defeat his foe but right just before Brainiac downloads his conscience into one oh his other clones. Superman realizes that he must destroy this massive ship along with all the clones aboard. After another massive battle he is able to disable the ship, destroy the clones and the new Braniac but right before the ship is destroyed the Braniac main frame does a local search for another body that he could download in to, it has to be Kryptonian, and he finds another one on Earth, Superman's kid, Jason White.

"So Brainiac uses Kryptonian technology and beams/download itself into Jason's body and this causes causes him to age and grow into a full adult but with Brainiac in complete control. Superman realizes what just happened and rushes to confront his very own son who is now possessed by Brainiac. Is Jason still there or is it all Brainiac? It's all Braniac and Superman knows what he has to do, he must defeat Brainiac at all costs or the planet and it's inhabitants will be doomed.... There is a Christ like metaphor here. Superman has to sacrifice his own son to save humanity."

Voices From Krypton's response: This feels more like a fan-fic than a scenario for a potential Bryan Singer film. Brainiac entering the body of Superman's kid, and that body then aging so that father goes up against son...and then KILLING his son? This just doesn't sound credible. What do you think? Are we being too harsh?

Superkalkixass, I did an excerpt because I can't reprint their entire article, which is why there's a link to the original. And if you read early on in what I did quote, it does say that "Krypto buddy" turns out to be Brainiac.

Actually I think that sounds like a pretty good way of taking care of the kid, which would've had to have been done somehow. Comparing X2 to X-Men 1, I think Bryan Singer's second Superman would've been a lot better than Returns was.

Him saying he wanted to go "Wrath of Khan" with the sequel to Superman Returns did NOT mean he wanted to duplicate the storybeats, but, rather, go from a film that didn't deliver on a number of levels and get back to the roots of what made the concept popular in the first place. That's what Nicholas Meyer and Harve Bennett did with Wrath of Khan, and no doubt what Singer wanted the chance to do with Man of Steel.

This story line is good and lots better than Superman Returns!

Yes write son off or kill him off not how it goings in myth!

And don`t have Bryan singer on-board for this reboot it [frick]ed it enough with dark cape and son heh!

If that's the case, then I obviously stand corrected. I still feel that Superman sacrificing his son for humanity doesn't sound credible, or, at the very least, sounds out of character. Now as much as I would be against it, I think a more credible conclusion would be Superman sacrificing himself as well. If he's responsible for his son's death, even for whatever reason it may be, how does he live with himself for the rest of his life?

I get the whole "sacrifice his son" theme but man thats really to harsh on the characters with Lois loosing Jason in this manner. I would have gone alternate reality plot.

Sounds like it will be a cool movie but not a Superman movie. Forget his piano-throwin son and let's have him fight a worthy opponent. Superman VS Darkseid.

ROUTH OR BUST!!!

Sounds harsh killing the boy, but it would have been a good sequel if they weren't mad about the box office.

I loved Superman Returns and I always wanted to see a sequel. This script just sounds awesome, espically the idea of Brianiac being the main villain, and then him controlling Jason. The idea of Superman having to fight his own son, and maybe even kill him to save the Earth is a very interesting idea to explore in any movie, espically a superhero movie.

It is a great idea for Superman to battle Jason, a good way to get rid of Jason but also add depth to his character, and great story lines for future sequels, and how Lois would react to Superman maybe killing Jason, and how Superman would deal with the idea of having to kill his own son. Just such great drama and make for one interesting film.

If this is real, then it is a shame that we will never see it. Brainiaic is a great villain and such a great foe for Superman. Singer had said he would have made it very much like Star Trek 2: Wrath of Kahn and Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back, being darker and with more action and character drama.

Sounds good to me..I'm actually visualizing this and I thought it would be an epic battle. Brainiac vs Superman. The climax of the film would be superman battling his own son controlled by brainiac. This would be an emotional conflict for superman. This would be great, but Singer [frick]ed up the first film and it's a shame we would never see this story line. damn!

That first paragraph sounds like a combination of 'All-Star Superman' and the recent New Krypton storyline.

The rest is just utter crap. Doesn't even sound like it contains enough plot for a 2 hour film.

they lost me in the whole son aging and Brainiaic taking over his body....but i like the whole Brainiaic tricking the world and then trying to destroy it, just like Superman the animated series.

I hop Snyder use's Brainiac as the villian in the new film. How awesome would that be to see Superman destroying and tearing apart 100's of robot drones sent after him by Brainiac!

I'm all for seeing Braininac on the big screen, but just not this version of him. I'm really just over Singer at this point.

True or not, I knew Singers sequel would have been a step up. The evidence is in his X-Men movies. The first was actually quite tame and dull but it established the characters for a much better second outing.

hey at least superman fought someone (throws a punch) thats my biggest concern for this new movie. and i hope they lay off the origins. have clark save the would from brainiac in the movie not kill his son (cause lois would shit), and after the credits have sup's in the daily planet and have bruce wayne make a cameo... thats how i would go.. but this is just thinking off the top of my head.

Sounds like fan fiction to me. Would be nice to see Superman take on something other than Lex Luthor in a movie though. Brainiac would have been a good fight.

I seriously post the same story as my sequel to Bryan Singer's Superman. Only the kid grows up and becomes Bizarro who's was controlled by brainiac. They stole my story! They probably didn't!

again @superkal you have turned to insults, what is your problem?

ANYWAY a lot of people weren't happy about the introduction of Jason White and this would have gotten rid of him, so I don't see any problems. Still hoping we get a big screen Brainiac, I liked Smallville's take on him but they can take him that much further on the big screen. Heck as long as Lex isn't the main/only bad guy in Snyder's film then I'm happy!
