With Man of Tomorrow shaping up to be DC Studios' first "event" movie, anticipation among DCU fans is high. Rumours are swirling about Batman and Wonder Woman appearing, and the Superman sequel may be Gunn's chance to firmly establish what this world will look like moving forward.
If Man of Tomorrow follows Superman and Supergirl's example, then a trailer should be released in December (likely in front of Dune: Part Three).
However, last December, the Supergirl teaser was completely overshadowed by Avengers: Doomsday and simply couldn't compete with that movie's four teasers. While the MCU blockbuster didn't sink the Woman of Tomorrow at the box office, DC Studios won't want Man of Tomorrow to be eclipsed in the same way when the movie itself arrives in theaters on December 18.
That could explain new comments from DC Studios co-CEO and filmmaker James Gunn. At the Clayface premiere, he was asked if a Man of Tomorrow sneak peek is coming anytime soon and bluntly replied, "No," before walking away laughing.
This doesn't completely close the door on a Man of Tomorrow trailer being with us this year. However, with Josh Goldstine—who oversaw Superman's marketing—now back at Skydance (Paramount Pictures/Warner Bros. Discovery), a different approach is possibly being taken.
Supergirl flopped, and it's currently unclear whether Clayface will find the same level of success as other recent horror hits. With that in mind, DC Studios needs Man of Tomorrow to be one of the summer's biggest movies.
Gunn was in a buoyant mood at the Clayface premiere, but was shocked when a photo of him looking particularly excited went viral on social media.
In Man of Tomorrow, Superman will be forced to team up with Lex Luthor to battle Brainiac, a threat not just to Metropolis but to the entire world.
Written and directed by James Gunn, the movie stars include David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Lars Eidinger as Brainiac, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag, Sr., Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl.
Andre Royo, Matthew Lillard, Sinqua Walls, and Adria Arjona will also star. However, as we mentioned above, we still don't know whether the latter is playing Maxima or Wonder Woman. There's also speculation that Eva De Dominici is playing one of the characters, and there's always a chance the Diana Prince rumblings don't pan out. We'll have to wait and see.
Man of Tomorrow arrives in theaters on July 9, 2027.
