Man of Tomorrow is gearing up to start filming in April 2026. The movie is expected to open up the DCU in a significant way with its introduction of Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger, whom David Corenswet's Superman and Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor will reluctantly team up against. The movie is also rumored to be introducing a mystery character, which could have big ramifications for DC Studios' nascent franchise. In November, Nexus Point News reported that the sequel was looking to cast a new female hero described as a "warrior" with a "strong physique." DC Studios was said to be looking for a tall actress in her late '20s.
The outlet believed the role to be that of Wonder Woman, who is slated to get her own DCU film, penned by Supergirl scribe Ana Nogueira. Despite the speculation, the character remains a mystery. If a new rumor is to be believed, however, there could be an announcement coming soon regarding the part. In a Q&A on X, Apocalyptic Horseman, from Nexus Point News, was asked if any Wonder Woman news would be available soon. The scooper brought up Man of Tomorrow's mystery character, stating he believed her to be Wonder Woman, and that an actress would be announced in the next month:
"If that female hero in Man of Tomorrow is her (and I feel like it is), we'll know who it is in the month or so."
The scooper later clarified that he meant the actress joining the project would be the one getting announced, and that he was unsure if the character would be revealed alongside the casting: "[I don't know] if they'll reveal the character, but I was referring to the actress."
Apocalyptic Horseman went on to add that he believed this mystery character to be the next casting in the DCU: "Assuming it's her in [Man of Tomorrow], that'll be the next casting, I bet."
Though the character is only believed to be Wonder Woman, the description shared by Nexus Point News is quite fitting for Diana Prince. It would also make sense to introduce her in a big blockbuster like Man of Tomorrow prior to her getting her own film, to potentially garner more audience interest in her on top of her already significant cultural status. That approach was taken by Marvel Studios for Spider-Man and Black Panther, who debuted in Captain America: Civil War and went on to headline very successful spinoffs, which ultimately became franchises.
Wonder Woman is one of DC's pillars, and it would be exciting to see her debut in Superman's sequel. A role as big as the hero will be difficult to keep under wraps, so perhaps we will have a better idea about whether or not she is, in fact, part of Man of Tomorrow once DC Studios finds an actress for the sequel's mysterious role.
As for the development status of her own film, Apocalyptic Horseman claimed it is still being written:
Man of Tomorrow will fly into theaters on July 9, 2027. Superman is available to stream on HBO Max.
