Speaking with The LA Times Hero Complex Michael Shannon spoke briefly about Man Of Steel. Shannon says its unlike anything he has ever done and its like being on another world. He also said that while they are using a lot of Green Screen they are also building a lot of detailed sets as well.

What can you tell us about the scale of “Man of Steel”?

It’s unlike anything I’ve ever done. It’s massive sets. It’s literally another world. It’s the first time I’ve acted on another planet.

What is it like acting on a set like that?

As much green screen as there is and I’m sure will be, they’re actually building a lot of the sets as well. I had thought it was just going to be green screens everywhere and we would just be pretending everything. There’s quite a bit of detail they’re building and putting into it. It’s very helpful. The less green screen, the better — I don’t think you’d be able to find an actor on Earth who wouldn’t have that sentiment.

Man Of Steel stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Russell Crowe, Laurence Fishburne with Christopher Meloni, Harry Lennix, and will be released on June 14, 2013.

Thats basically a city bring shown on thr Donner Krypton. Maybe they buit it in such a fashion to fool would be world conquerers to think it was just a barren planet that cant support life. Brilliant strategey when you think about it.

Singer should have done things fresh when he had the chance. More than enough time went by for a legit redo.

I have to say the music alone will feel missing from man of steel. I just hope they don't turn him into super dooshbag like they did in the comics via the poo 52

Good! Let Green Lantern be burried with his screens. Set pieces and prosthetics is where it's at!

@theGDShortshaterSuperguy. They didn't bother exploring the geological specifics in the Donner film. They were more concerned with the rest of the movie than explain where the water was or wasn't. But given there were a good number of canyons its assumed the water could be what carved those out. But in thr end itwas a movie about Superman and not a documatary about fictional alien planets geology.

Now we can move on to why therre is so much sound in the vaccum of space, why real punches dont sound like Clint Eastwood punches, why the moon is so huge that the actors arent concerned with it hitting the earth etc.

Zod apparently has Sammy Davis eyes.

I would be more interested in the new superman movie if they didnt reuse Zod (been done) but went with Braniac instead. Luthor definiteky needed a break but so did Zod. We had a ton of Zod in Smallville and of course Superman 2. When I see it I will be going in with the thought its just a Superman 2 remake. Seems like it so far with Perry/Barry White aside.

Im pleased to hear Michael Shannon saying hes not a fan of green screen and to much cgi!!

Im all for less cgi as possible! We all know how Green Lantern turned out! :)

@TheGdsooperguy. I read enough excerpts to know I dont want to read anymore. If you mailed me a copy I might read it but I woudn't waste the money.

On superdouche, one who is an overcompensating Ahole is a douchebag to me. It was you who said Superman doesn't trust humans. Not sure if thats accurate or not but if it is it means he is also a racist.

On Cannibalistic Kryptonians, ummmmmmm yaaaaah, we didnt see enough of the planet to even speculate. But I expect they had greenhouses of somekind. It was an old planet so it may have changed over the years and all the crystal buildings just covered the planet like a huge city. Of course given were talking about what 10 to 15 minutes of film from 30ish years ago and we have to be concerned about the specifics of food distribution, how the water worked etc? A weee bit nutty to even bring it up if you ask me. In the Nolan Batman movie they didnt go over how the plumbing ran in Wayne Manor. How dare Nolan to leave out such an important detail out, he runined the movie for not taking 20 minutes explaining Wayne Manor's Plumbing

TheGODDAMNSUPERGUY: I agree it wasnt just the cgi! The story was shit the actors were wrong for the roles!

I wouldn't say GL is a stupid hero! That film did it no justice!

But i would say the over use of cgi! is what killed that film!

@Ichaos Man, Superguy has been puttin Donner's movies down for a while. Think it's his way to feel safer about Zack "Awesome" Snyder and the adidas powerweb suits...

@Clark99 the alternative to CG is going with minatures and Ray Harryhousen tech. Cg is fine its an important tool, its just how you use it. Though at the same time CGI stunts are technically should be impressive, they come off as flat. Some of the old school stunts in serials are more impressive. The best stunts these days come from the Asian "kung fu" movies. Some of the old Jackie Chan movies are plain awsome.

Ichaos - 9/30/2011, 7:17 AM
@Clark99 CGI in green lantern was over used just because they used it for the costumes. That alone cranked the budget way up Im sure. But also a Green Lantern film has to have a lot of CGI because the nature of his powers. He's a good character. They should had it more in space and better writing

@rbfn04 I got that impression. I expect his reason for hating the Donner films was bexause his daddy probably liked it so he has to hate it. He also seems to support a so called "bad ass" version of Superman which contradicts the last 80 years of the character

rbfn04 - 9/30/2011, 7:34 AM
@Ichaos Shaw Brother's movies have some amazing kung fu stunts.

And we all go thru that "OMG edgy, dark, gory!!!! So kewl!!!" phase... lol

Ichaos: I don't mind of a bit! I just feel to many directors and filmmakers use it these days!

Thats what made Nolans Batman films so good imo! it was all about story and the actors acting!

@Hammersolo yep, with some good logistics got to read all of it so far, actually. It sucks. Designs are terrible, writing is weak.

Superman is turning into an X-Men character.

DC didn't need to change it's whole multiverse. Needed to get better writers. Oh, and fire DiDio.

But, please, let's not turn this into a DCnU thread. Let's keep it in the movie. Just mentioned it cause it was mentioned before.

@SUperguy well, Lee designed it and he draws it like an armours (as he does every DCnU character). "Superman doesn't trust humans"... Yep...

I still think the CGI suits in GL makes sense. They are supposed to be constructs. Maybe they could've been done better, but, with that in mind, they didn't bother me so much.
