According to IMDB Ken Lawson will be playing Wesley Dodds, the Sandman, for Absolute Justice - The Smallville TV movie that introduces us to the Golden Age Superhero Team, Justice Society.

He joins other Society members - Hawkman, Dr. Fate and Stargirl. The movie will air January.

Here's a Sandman wiki:
Sandman (Wesley Dodds), is a fictional superhero appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. The first of several DC characters to bear the name, he was created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Bert Christman.
Attired in a green business suit, fedora, and gas mask, the Sandman used a gun emitting a sleeping gas to sedate criminals.

The modern version? I was pretty sure dodds was the golden age version, or am I wrong in thinking that Gaiman's version is the modern one.

No, Gaimen's is the modern one Tucson..But there is no way they would stick him in the JSA! ..he doesn't play well with others. It would be cool to see the 2 meet up as they did when Dodds got his dream premonition powers..

I've heard they meet in the sandman midnight theater stories too, but I haven't read those yet. I just started volume 2 today.

Actually @Rorschach--Gaiman's "Sandman" usually doesn't go by that name, he's generally called Morpheus or Dream, technically, the "modern" version of Sandman is Sand (or Sands, can't remember if it's with or without the last "s"), who was Wesley Dodds' sidekick back in the day, Sandy the Golden Boy.
