Checkmate is a fictional covert operations agency within the DC Comics universe. It first appeared in Action Comics #598 and proceeded to have its own ongoing title in Checkmate! (vol. 1). In the wake of events depicted in the mini-series The OMAC Project and Infinite Crisis, Checkmate has been re-chartered as a United Nations Security Council-affiliated agency and has its own new series, Checkmate (vol. 2).

Smallville Episode #9-17: "Checkmate"

From Kryptonsite.com: With a title like this, it's likely a safe bet to think that Pam Grier's Amanda Waller character will be involved. In the comics, Checkmate is a covert operations group within the DC Universe. With Checkmate involved, could the Suicide Squad be that far behind?

Also it seems Metallo's back in the episode after it in "Upgrade" episode 18. It seems a good bet there's no stopping these DC Universe cameos and they are indeed still coming after the Justice Society of America do their stuff in the Smallville special. Hey, here's a run down of the episode titles after the JSA 2-parter:

Episode 14: "Persuasion"

Episode 15: "Conspiracy"

Episode 16: "Escape"

Episode 17: "Checkmate"

Episode 18: "Upgrade"

LEEE777 - Many thanks to the guys at Kryptonsite. A good question indeed, is Suicide Squad far behind? Personally I have always thought the DC comic team would work perfect on the screen, be it big or small. I can't wait to see the Checkmate turn up.
