There's a great deal of intrigue surrounding James Gunn's plans for SUPERMAN, and not just because it will reboot the DCEU as the new DCU.
The filmmaker and DC Studios co-CEO has chosen to include several other superheroes in the movie, including Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, Metamorpho, The Engineer, and Mister Terrific, leading to speculation there could be even more surprises in store.
Now, though, Gunn has taken to Threads to confirm, "All roles in Atlanta have been filled (I think all speaking roles in the film have now been filled actually)."
While every speaking role has been cast, it doesn't mean some actors haven't boarded the project whose names have yet to be shared by the trades. This does, however likely close the door on any additional casting news hitting them in the weeks and months ahead (the final major addition was Wendell Pierce as Perry White).
In other DCU news, Medium shared a story yesterday claiming that Corey Hawkins (Kong: Skull Island, In the Heights) has been cast in DC Studios' Waller. With Peacemaker season 2 now coming out before The Suicide Squad spin-off, it seemed hard to believe and has already been debunked.
Also on Threads, Gunn said, "Scripts aren't finished. Haven't started the casting process. (So no [it's not true])."
The site appears to have based its report on the fact Philip J. Silvera has been added to Waller's IMDb page. He's previously served as Hawkins' stunt double, so it seems they put 2+2 together and made 5.
They did, however, update their report to say, "James Gunn reportedly debunked this but our source is sticking to their story. Stay tuned."
When Waller was announced, it was confirmed that Viola Davis will reprise her role with the show set to also feature appearances from "Team Peacemaker." The series will be written by Christal Henry (Watchmen) and Jeremy Carver (Supernatural).
There's a great deal of confusion surrounding that show and Peacemaker, largely because they'll heavily feature characters who were part of the DC Extended Universe. Gunn recently tried to clarify things by explaining that parts of Peacemaker's first season are canon...and others are not.
SUPERMAN tells the story of Superman's journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
The first DCU movie is set to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
