Four new 15-second TV spots for Superman have been released. In those, we see the Man of Steel being taken down by Metamorpho's Kryptonite arm, along with more flying and action shots.
The Daily Planet newsroom gets some love, while Lois Lane can be found piloting Mister Terrific's T-Craft in what looks to be a fun sequence. The Man of Steel, while formidable, appears to have met his match in Ultraman, a villain who takes the hero down with ease.
Superman writer and director James Gunn has also officially released what we'd arguably say is the best poster we've seen for the reboot yet.
Gunn was asked about Ultraman during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. Asked if the mysterious villain is part of Lex Luthor's attempt to create a "Superman kind of figure," he responded, "It's close. Yeah, I think that's close. Ultra Man is sort of Lex's thug and is pretty powerful."
The filmmaker also confirmed that Hammer of Boravia has ties to LuthorCorp. "Yes, totally. Lex is connected to everything. There's nothing bad happening in Metropolis during this movie that doesn't have some connection to Lex Luthor."
Many fans have pointed out that Superman's color grading has ditched the heavy blue tint seen in the first trailers. There's been speculation on social media about whether that's meant to bring the movie more in line with what the wider DCU will look like. However, Gunn doesn't view the reboot as a "proof of concept" for the franchise.
"I don't think of it like that at all," he told the site. "I just think of it as I'm making another movie. I'm trying to make the best movie I possibly can. And I'm learning a lot. This process has been more similar to the first Guardians for me than anything else because I'm learning so much about how to shoot stuff with Superman, which is very different."
"You know, the flying and figuring all that out and figuring out the simplicity and elegance of this character, which is so different from anyone I've ever written a movie for before. I'm learning a lot along the way," Gunn concluded.
