SUPERMAN Is Downed By Kryptonite And Fights Ultraman In Epic New TV Spots For First DCU Movie

A new look at Superman has been revealed in four 15-second TV spots, and there are some awesome never-before-seen moments from the first DCU movie, including the Man of Steel being downed by Kryptonite.

Four new 15-second TV spots for Superman have been released. In those, we see the Man of Steel being taken down by Metamorpho's Kryptonite arm, along with more flying and action shots.

The Daily Planet newsroom gets some love, while Lois Lane can be found piloting Mister Terrific's T-Craft in what looks to be a fun sequence. The Man of Steel, while formidable, appears to have met his match in Ultraman, a villain who takes the hero down with ease.

Superman writer and director James Gunn has also officially released what we'd arguably say is the best poster we've seen for the reboot yet.

Gunn was asked about Ultraman during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. Asked if the mysterious villain is part of Lex Luthor's attempt to create a "Superman kind of figure," he responded, "It's close. Yeah, I think that's close. Ultra Man is sort of Lex's thug and is pretty powerful."

The filmmaker also confirmed that Hammer of Boravia has ties to LuthorCorp. "Yes, totally. Lex is connected to everything. There's nothing bad happening in Metropolis during this movie that doesn't have some connection to Lex Luthor."

Many fans have pointed out that Superman's color grading has ditched the heavy blue tint seen in the first trailers. There's been speculation on social media about whether that's meant to bring the movie more in line with what the wider DCU will look like. However, Gunn doesn't view the reboot as a "proof of concept" for the franchise.

"I don't think of it like that at all," he told the site. "I just think of it as I'm making another movie. I'm trying to make the best movie I possibly can. And I'm learning a lot. This process has been more similar to the first Guardians for me than anything else because I'm learning so much about how to shoot stuff with Superman, which is very different."

"You know, the flying and figuring all that out and figuring out the simplicity and elegance of this character, which is so different from anyone I've ever written a movie for before. I'm learning a lot along the way," Gunn concluded.

You can watch these new Superman TV spots in the players below.

Superman, DC Studios' first feature film to hit the big screen, is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures.

In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.

The movie stars David Corenswet in the dual role of Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

Also appearing are Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Neva Howell, and Milly Alcock.

Superman arrives in theaters on July 11, 2025.

@SteviesRightFoo - something like that could work very well for anthology movie. he could be the connecting tissue to the stories and not have to be the main focus of the movie

We need to see the genesis of Vandal Savage at the end of this movie.

@DocSpock - yep, the thanos/darkseid villain has been repetitive so might be worthwhile to see something different.

2nd DCU movie. Blue Beetle is the 1st
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 6/22/2025, 6:47 AM
@BigPhilbowski - fallacy. Superman is the first. Blue Beetle introduces a version of Blue Beetle that would carry through into the DCU and that origin might be soft canon (like Peacemaker Season 1) but nothing is hard canon before Creature Commandos.
roboticJohnson
roboticJohnson - 6/22/2025, 6:51 AM
@BigPhilbowski - nope, blue beetle is dceu, superman's the first dcu movie. The character of blue beetle may reappear in the dcu portrayed by the same actor, but that doesn't really mean anything. Following the same logic, 2016 suicide squad would be the first dcu movie due to Amanda waller, 1989 Batman would be the first dceu movie due to keaton's Batman, and 2002 spider-man would be the first mcu movie due to j k simmons

@BigPhilbowski - First film specificaly made under the DCU umbrella that started production fully under Gunn from the start rather than him coming in after filming etc had already started, better? Sure retcons can add in stuff initialy made as otherverse or DCEU as being canon to the new DCU just like the Fox films made prior Marvel films canon to the MCU multiverse.

Blue Beetle was initialy concieved to be in and references the DCEU then tweeked a tad in latter edits when upgrading from streaming only to big screen release to be more vague for greater flexibility. Thinking seeming to be so that if it was poorly recieved could be otherverse standalone, or if well recieved folded into whatever happened after The Flash in regard to soft reboot or final nail in DCEU coffin and full reboot.

Everyone in this movie just seems...unlikeable???
Corensweat -wouldn't have chosen this guy as my supes... Bit of a low likeability factor. Don't see him having the comic chops that this movie seems to be going for
Mr Terrific -70s throwback jiveturkey mofo. No thanks
Rachel B- meh.. My only real glimmer of hope for this. Why is she driving a space ship FFS. Just seems rushed.
Nathan F- written to be unlikeable so fair do's
Don't get me wrong.. I'll go see and it'll gave my money... But I'm not hopeful.. But Ill go in objective enough for my mind to hopefully be changed

@Rpendo - in some of the clips he's done across a bit like a blaxploitation esq character. Mr Terrific bring the complete opposite..calm..methodical .. reserved. In that his intelligence speaks for himself...he doesn't have to be this hyperbolic type character that Gunn seems to have made him

@OptimusInTime - Lois flying a spaceship didn’t bother me but now it’s got more attention it just makes me laugh so much. Initially I thought it looked cool but now I realise how ridiculous it really is. Reminds me of Star Wars when Rey flies the millennium falcon. Personally I don’t like Krypto. I understand that Krypto is supplementary to the lore of superman but it really kills the suspense for me. It reminds me of Stanley Ipkiss and Milo from the Mask. I just can’t. 😆😆😆🤣🤣🤣

@Canyoublush - ha yeah pretty much. It just seems like something that should be 3 or 4 films down the line. True we don't know too much about gunns universe but I got the feeling the studio was like "we need to make Lois do more this time around" 😂😂
The next movie will include "The Council of Lois Lanes" 😂😂😂 Which was pretty badass in the animation My Adventures With Superman.
Krypto....I get what he's trying to do. The only way krypto will work is if he dies sacrificing himself for superman... It would be a sad but acceptable death... Raising the stakes. Because none of the big players are dying in this first movie. We think kryptos this annoying mutt who mostly doesbt listen to his owner.. But in a moment of heroism sacrifices himself for the owner.. Drawing heartstrings from the audience.
Fricking James Gunn 😂😂😂

@OptimusInTime - on Lois flying a ship. Might be a result of being raised by a hard nosed military general?
Ojeet78
Ojeet78 - 6/22/2025, 12:01 PM
@OptimusInTime - What an abhorrent and cynical take. Krypto works cause he's a remnant of his homeworld. Krypto and Kara are his ties to krypton. Imagine advocating for a dog's death to make a Superman movie work. He wasn't killed for All Star Superman to be impactful and hopefully he isn't in this movie either(which seems to be based more or less off that comic). It would be horrific but also, objectively, it would be bad writing. As for Lois , she's always been cool and the movie seems to be embracing that.

OptimusInTime - 6/22/2025, 12:06 PM
@Ojeet78 - not saying that's what I want!!!
But we know Gunn uses personified animals to pull at the audiences heartstrings. Just saying..I see it happening..and me shedding a tear 😓.

I'm just thrilled we are seeing more of Supe's rogue gallery. Besides the Superboy TV series ('88-'92), which had great use of villains but horrible budget, and Smallville, which shoe-horned WAY too many characters in before he even became Superman, no film maker has remotely tried to expand on the baddies.

Lex, Zod, or other Kryptonians. That's it. Oh, and a beyond miserable attempt at Doomsday. Why did they all play it so safe?
Snyder, and even Singer, could have used Metallo, Bizzaro (kudos to Superman &Lois for a great take), Hank Henshaw, Brainiac (who should be the big bad of the DCU's first JL), Lobo, Parasite, Live Wire, Toy Man, Vandal Savage, Granny Goodness with her chick gang, and so many more. Why wouldn't a new take on Supe's want use something different?! So many missed opportunities.

Now? We not only get to see more rogues, but other established heroes too. Gunn is seriously going after the deep history of the comics and I'm thrilled.
