As many people will know, Christopher Nolan likes to re-use the same actors that he thinks perform well and would be good in his other movies. Christian Bale, Michael Caine, and Cillian Murphy are the most popular and best known leads and the current Batman film series. So applying that logic, I have come up with the following for the casting of the Superman reboot he will be guiding to the screen.
All of this however, could be blown out of the water depending on the power Nolan has over the director of "The Man of Steel," as Nolan will be busy filming and ending the greatest and best comic book movie franchise of all time, Batman!
It is my firm belief however, that Nolan will be very "hands on" with his involvement in the new Superman reboot. Nolan, David Goyer, and brother Jonathan Nolan are helming it with a new director (possibly Jonathan Nolan). This must mean that things such as casting, picking the director, and other such things will be under Nolan's control as he loved the original Superman film series and has publicly expressed his love for the Superman comics as a child. Anyway enough rambling, here is the cast!
Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman
Cavill hasn't worked with Nolan before, but is at the top of the list of candidates for Superman. He has already been attached to the role under McG's directorship and is from Britain, where casting would take place and possibly studio filming--meaning more British actors with smaller roles.
Billy Zane as Alexander "Lex" Luthor
Now I must admit I have gone for the easy choice here as Zane was rumored to have met with Nolan about a future film role. I could see the way Nolan is thinking with Zane as Lex, focusing him more on the animated series' Lex Luthor, suave but evil businessman.
Emily Blunt as Lois Lane
Rumours have been flooded that Nolan has been lining up Blunt as Selina Kyle aka Catwoman in Batman 3. Could he be thinking of a better role for Blunt, as Lois Lane. She is beginning to become a household name and would fit the bill for the start of a new film trilogy.
Anton Yelchin as James "Jimmy" Olsen
Nolan said he likes his casting to be an all star studded affair, like the 1978 Superman. The biggest young name around is Yelchin, having starred in "Terminator Salvation" and "Star Trek." This is one role a British actor can't get away with, Olsen is the epitome of the all-American who adores Superman!
Tom Berenger as Perry White
Known more for his action roles, Berenger has worked with Nolan on "Inception." He would be the perfect fit for Perry White, converting that action to newsroom action as the hot headed, cigar smoking Perry White. A perfect combination in mine and Nolan's eyes I feel.
Laurence Fishbourne as Voice of Brainiac
Nolan and David Goyer would know better than to go with a living Brainiac. It would be more realistic to go with the android Brainiac, more akin to the animated version. Fishbourne voiced the Silver Surfer and has the right tone of voice to strike fear from the CGI Brainiac.
Scarlett Johansson as Mercy Graves
Johansson adores Nolan and thinks he is one of the best directors around. Nolan believes Johansson has real star quality. However, Johansson hasn't the right look for Lois, and would be better suited to Mercy Graves. She could use the experience gained from "Iron Man 2" and is a big name in a supporting role, something Nolan promised.
Sam Worthington as John Corben
Now Worthington hasn't worked with Nolan before but has worked alongside Christian Bale on Terminator Salvation, and the two got on well and became friends and could be suggested by Bale and also James Cameron who licks him up and down. Already familiar with the cyborg element and would be a good choice.
Elisha Cuthbert as Cat Grant
The casting of Cat Grant could be anybody as it is a simple role to fill so could end up going to a British actor as casting auditions would probobly take place there, much like The Dark Knight and Batman Begins. I picked Cuthbert out of a hat really to add a name to the role, because anybody who is good looking could take this.
Dileep Rao as Ron Troupe
Troupe is a smaller character on the staff at the Daily Planet, something that would be featured in the script more, like Gotham PD is in the Batman films. Rao has worked with Nolan before and if any of these casting predictions came true, would probobly be this one. Also, his name is the same as Krypton's Red Sun, a nice littl bit of trivia.
Tom Hardy as Steve Lombard
Worked with Nolan on Inception and is an incredible actor and after seeing him in Ronson, could play a very cocky Steve Lombard very well. Lombard a former sports star who is an arse because he had to give it up, seems like the role Hardy could own.
