COMICS: Check Out Russell Dauterman's Spectacular THE MIGHTY THOR #1 Gatefold Cover

Jason Aaron (Original Sin) and Russell Dauterman (Nightwing) are returning to Asgard later this year, and we've got your first look at the amazing cover for the first issue of their new series, The Mighty Thor. Plus, Aaron talks Loki, Beta Ray Bill and a Thor with a secret identity...

Following on from Secret Wars, Jane Foster will resume her tenture as the Goddess of Thunder, with writer Jason Aaron, artist Russell Dauterman and colourist Matt Wilson all returning as the creative team of The Mighty Thor. In an interview with IGN, Aaron explains that while the previous eight-issue series tackled the mystery of the woman beneath the helmet, this relaunched title addresses Jane's dual identity from the get-go. "We get to do the book and deal with Thor having a secret identity," he says. "Kind of the most refreshing part of this whole volume is bringing a different take on Thor. It kind of gets back to that original Lee/Kirby dynamic, when you had crippled doctor Donald Blake who would secretly transform into Thor. It's cool to write something like that. Jane's life is a big part of this new volume, and her struggle with cancer will continue to be a huge part of that as well. So we dive right into that in issue #1."

Readers of the new volume will finally see Aaron's take on Loki, a character he has refrained from using until now. "This seemed like a good time to bring Loki back into the fold in a big way," he teases. "I don't want to say too much about where he fits into the grand scheme of things. You'll just have to wait and see, but yes, certainly this is the beginning of big things for Loki in the pages of Thor once more." He confirms that fan-favourite character Beta Ray Bill will also be making an appearance in the book, following his appearence in the Aaron-penned Secret Wars tie-in Thors. Below is Dauterman's wraparound cover for the first issue, featuring a sea of familiar friends and foes, plus a new one, too (the fiery character next to Heimdall is a brand new character, says Aaron, not Surtur as some believed). Are you excited for The Mighty Thor?

Yeah her arm is ridiculously disproportionate to the rest of her body. Everything else is pretty good though, nice cover with lots of vibrant colour.

I mean, I don't mind making her buff, but please make her ALL buff. This is like sewing the hulks arm onto SpiderMan, or Juggernauts arm onto Knightcrawler... it just looks weird

All you people complaining about the scale seem to have never read a comic book before in your life. Exaggerated perspective is pretty much a staple of comic book art.

@BandFTW : C'mon, you example looks NORMAL, like a fisheye lense, but she looks.... completely out of perspective.

Maybe she's standing in one of those optical illusion rooms

Yawwwnn...... Someone let me know when the REAL Thor makes his triumphant return to the MCU. Until then, I'll be reading OTHER comics worth my time and money.

When is the real Thor coming back? And didn't Beta Ray Bill die in Secret Wars?

What, an article related to female Thor? That must mean it's time to let the woman-hating nerd cliches out of their cages. Come guys, just because 99% of the world's female population find beta males repulsive doesn't mean you have the right to hate them. ;)

Also dat ass tho...

It's not Thor anymore. It's a new hero using Thor's hammer, it's bs. Misleading PC bs

Don't consider myself a "feminist" since I'm not sure it's possible for a male to accurately claim that title...but do consider myself a very liberal person.

All the same, I'm kind of bored with this and, with the Foster revelation, a bit offended. It crossed the line for me when it was revealed that Jane Foster had cancer. I have a family member dying of cancer right now. I don't want to read about my heroes dying of cancer. It's depressing. It's enough to deal with it in reality, and like it or not, "Thor" is not reality. The writers of this book aren't going to find a solution to the disease or help me cope with it. What started out as a weak attempt to attract press has turned into poor taste.

Find a better way to sell books. This is cheap.

Someone's judging like they can do better. I wish I could see some of these guys work, so I can compare their art with the artist they're raging on.

I'm not really following this series but I think it's so empowering and wonderful for Jane, suffering with cancer, to be a character given immense power, so defy the label of being weak and useless and just "sick".

I understand the outrage by people who love the Thor character,
But for me personally, I like that somewhere, some kid with cancer somewhere may be reading this series and may be inspired in some way.

The whole female Thor was actually done before, Marvel is running out of new ideas or ways to shock peopke into buying issues so reaching into their bag of tricks from back in the day.

So down for this.

This and the new run of Iron Man are looking awesome. Can't wait to read em.

Also, I think it would be pretty friggen rad to see Natalie Portman become Thor.
