After months of anticipation and fans asking where the Hel the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer was, Marvel Studios finally debuted our first look at Taika Waititi's Ragnarok follow-up on April 18. We weren't expecting to see another trailer until June at the earliest, but we might just get a second teaser for the sequel much sooner than anticipated.

According to scooper Daniel Richtman - who tends to be spot on with trailer release dates - the next Thor: Love and Thunder trailer will be with us in just a few days' time on Monday, May 23.

This would be mark an unusually short period of time between trailers, but then the studio did leave it very late to share the first one, so they have a lot of marketing/promotion to pack in before the movie hits theaters in early July.

We'll find out soon enough if he's right! For now, you can check out the first trailer below.

UPDATE: It's now been made official!

Thor: Love and Thunder finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor.

Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit) and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, Thor: Love and Thunder opens in theaters July 8, 2022.

Not super surprised seeing as this movie is coming out in a few short months. Gotta ramp up the marketing now

@thelastson18 - then again, marvel has made an annoying habit of weirdly absent then suddenly all over the place marketing lately.

@Origame - I remember getting teasers to movies like a year in advance, then full trailers and promo stuff about 3 months before release. My favorite example is the Hulk 2003 teaser trailer before spider-man 1. The whole audience was so bummed when it said “coming summer 2003” lol

They are starting to promote this movie hard...poor Doctor.

Anyway, I hope they learned their lesson, and dont spoil the movie in trailers in TV spots.

Everything is sooner than expected if you never expect it in the first place.

@Reeds2Much - I just always assume every movie announced gets canned right after news is given about it.

Can't ever be disappointed with that mindset.

Wow can't wait for Taika Waititi and Kevin Feige's Oscar frontrunner magnum opus that will break every box office record and forever change how films are conceived.

A Thor movie should be like a Nightwish song, pompous, heavy and beautiful. Taika Waititi instead made Thor movies into filmmaking equivalents of radio butt rock.

Thanks a lot, sir.

The film opens in less than 7 weeks. Definitely not too early for a new trailer.

Marvel literally announced the trailer is coming Monday, not sure why we're speculating

I'm holding out hope for this movie, after every lackluster phase 4 movie.. this better be a [frick]ing gem. Is it that hard to ask for a IW level movie every time? Or just mediocre bs
kylo0607
kylo0607 - 5/21/2022, 2:25 PM
@bobevanz - Same.

Nothing since IW & Endgame has been able to hype me in the same way or even similar. I keep expecting something as good as these two every time from a new Marvel Phase 4 film and keep getting disappointed.
ShellHead
ShellHead - 5/21/2022, 2:38 PM
@bobevanz - do you hear yourself? An IW level movie every time? Lol

First, art is subjective and for some people Phase 4 has been the most successful in individual films.

Second, expecting an event film with dozens of characters, $500 million dollar budget CGI, and the same stakes EVERY TIME is part of the reason no one in the public takes fandoms seriously.

If you compare Phase 4 to Phase 1, which fits the reset nature of it after Endgame, then the movies are just as financially and critically successful, apart from Eternals. And I'd say from a quality perspective, all of them, including Eternals, are better than all the Phase 1 and a good chunk of Phase 2-3 films.

@ShellHead - I don't get how people can't see this. IW and Endgame were so monumental because they were the culmination of 10 years of storytelling, and that included a bunch of movies that weren't great. You can't just make that again in two years. People are already looking at Phase 1 with rose-tinted glasses, I remember the time when people weren't exactly over the moon about Thor and Captain America TFA. Don't even get me started on Iron Man 2.

Tonic24k - 5/22/2022, 11:49 AM
@bobevanz - @kylo0607 - It's not hard to ask, no. It's just juvenile. This level of expectation is quite unreasonable. You'll get IW / EG level films when the story dictates we get them. Just like the Infinity Saga.

After the trailers of Dr. Strange and America Chavez revealed everything. Thor does not need another trailer in my opinion.
