THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER Features A Highly Unconventional Love Triangle - SPOILERS

Marvel Studios' Thor: Love and Thunder is now playing in most locations worldwide. The movie features quite a few surprises, including an unexpected - and highly unconventional - love triangle.

Thor: Love and Thunder focuses on the rekindling of romance between the Asgardian Avenger (Chris Hemsworth) and old flame Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), but the Odinson also finds himself involved in another entanglement... of the highly unconventional variety!

In the first act, Foster makes her way to New Asgard after feeling that she was called there by the shattered pieces of Mjölnir. The legendary hammer reforms, transforming Jane into The Mighty Thor. When she reunites with Thor, he seems a little put-out that his former weapon has found a new master, and his current axe, Stormbreaker, begins to act-up out of jealousy.

"I'm trying to make something which touches on this idea of love in all of the different ways that can exist," director Taika Waititi tells Empire."There's an undercurrent of jealousy," adds Kevin Feige. "When The Mighty Thor and Mjolnir show up, Thor's eyes start to be diverted away from Stormbreaker, and Stormbreaker's not that pleased about it."

It may sound absurd, but this "love triangle" is good for a few laughs - even if the recurring joke is pretty much run into the ground by the end of the movie. Ultimately, Thor reclaims Mjölnir when Jane succumbs to her cancer, and Stormbreaker is passed on to Gorr's daughter, Love.

Have you managed to catch Thor: Love and Thunder yet? If so, what did you think? Be sure to let us know in the usual place.

Thor: Love and Thunder finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor.

Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit) and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, Thor: Love and Thunder opens in theaters July 8, 2022.

I am done. I will not be seeing this in theatres. I will be having a secret love affair with my wallet.

Just got out of it 2 hours ago…

1. This movie felt like it was made by a child
2. Mad annoying ass couple next to us who would not stfu; laughing hard
3. It’s a good time at the movies but a BAD THOR MOVIE
4. You could feel how much they cut from this
5. The scene where Gorr is torturing the three heroes, I want to see THAT THOR MOVIE

Honorable mention:
-the scene with the kids imbued with the power of Thor, I have to admit was cute as hell and very charming.
-Crowe was funny

@GhostDog - The kids scene was pointless,Thor forged Storm breaker in a star but the kids pick up weapons from the floor and he enhances each weapon with his power.
So he didn't need to forge Storm breaker in a star.

@GhostDog - I liked Crowe hamming it the hell up. It was horrible in the best way. Bale was also enjoyable in all the ways that count.

My biggest gripe was they overused Guns & Roses. I like G&R, a lot, but something about movies that use only one artist (With the obvious exclusion of movies about those artists) in their soundtrack tends to irk me. And yes, I'm including Flash Gordan and Maximum Overdrive here even if they're great soundtracks. I can listen to them separately, but in movie it just kind of bothers me.

@marvel72 - he had Zeus weapon when he enhanced their powers

There’s a couple jokes that don’t land, but I wouldn’t say that the “love triangle” is run into the ground. I’d say all those jokes worked.

i give it a 7/10, it felt that the movie should of been longer, there was alot of sloppy editting. Taika really went off, i think he did a bit too much. I still rank Ragnarok 1st and Love and Thunder 2nd. Enjoyable movie, crowd pleaser.

@theprophet - pretty much this

@theprophet - I'm tired of crowd pleasers, they used to take risks with their movies. Now it's all a joke, literally

@bobevanz - They honestly took a risk letting Taika do whatever the [frick] he wanted. It just didn’t work because an unrestrained Taika runs jokes into the ground.

I'm not sure about this.
Can magical hammers and axes even consent?

@Feralwookiee - obviously they can't. Thor is a hammerfile.

@Feralwookiee - thats something a hammerfile would say.

I enjoyed the movie. Some jokes definitely don't land, especially Jane's. I did not think thor would lose someone again in this one. Truly a sad journey side by side.

I loved the parallel between Gorr and Jane. Could've been longer fasho tho

@MyCoolYoung

That line KILLED me. Even anticipating it I laughed my ass off.

I liked it. Quite a bit until it lost me in the third act.

@regularmovieguy - man I was so giddy when it was coming I literally just bought a shirt lol

Why'd the 3rd act lose you? The kids?

@MyCoolYoung

Hahaha, bro that had me crackin. Don't remember exactly where the third act lost me...felt like it might've been after they're all in the Shadow Realm and Gorr spoke with each of them. Really dug that scene but bringing back Love and having her come save the day...think that might've just been a little too much for me.

But I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Loved Ragnarok and figured this wouldn't be able to hit the highs of that movie given the reviews but we enjoyed it. First half had us laughing, a lot.
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 7/8/2022, 12:18 PM
@regularmovieguy - the first half was hilarious. I'm glad they slowed the jokes down the last 45.

The shadow realm was the highlight of the movie. Gorr had some horror vibes to him. I know why the film ended with love because of the whole love and thunder thing but, it felt like love was just there to set up another Thor on the young avengers.

The love triangle with Storm Breaker was crap.

SPOILER AHEAD.

I thought the hammer vs stormbreaker stuff was ok. I really enjoyed Thor and Jane's love but it was odd there was no attempt by Valkyrie to find a king.

@defenderofthefaith - attempt by Valkeryie... to find a "king". 🤨🤔

Did you just step out of a DeLorean from 1985? She, excuse me- "they" ain't that kind of "actressserrr"...
