Thor: Love and Thunder focuses on the rekindling of romance between the Asgardian Avenger (Chris Hemsworth) and old flame Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), but the Odinson also finds himself involved in another entanglement... of the highly unconventional variety!
In the first act, Foster makes her way to New Asgard after feeling that she was called there by the shattered pieces of Mjölnir. The legendary hammer reforms, transforming Jane into The Mighty Thor. When she reunites with Thor, he seems a little put-out that his former weapon has found a new master, and his current axe, Stormbreaker, begins to act-up out of jealousy.
"I'm trying to make something which touches on this idea of love in all of the different ways that can exist," director Taika Waititi tells Empire."There's an undercurrent of jealousy," adds Kevin Feige. "When The Mighty Thor and Mjolnir show up, Thor's eyes start to be diverted away from Stormbreaker, and Stormbreaker's not that pleased about it."
It may sound absurd, but this "love triangle" is good for a few laughs - even if the recurring joke is pretty much run into the ground by the end of the movie. Ultimately, Thor reclaims Mjölnir when Jane succumbs to her cancer, and Stormbreaker is passed on to Gorr's daughter, Love.
