Marvel Studios debuted the first official clip from Thor: Love and Thunder tonight during the MTV Movie and TV Awards, giving us a new look at Natalie Portman's Mighty Thor in action.
The brief sneak peek finds The Odinson (Chris Hemsworth) in the midst of a battle and calling for the reformed hammer of the gods. Mjolnir flies to him, but stops just short of his outstretched hand and zips back to its new owner, Jane Foster.
We're still not sure exactly how Jane will be reintroduced to The MCU, but director Taika Waititi has confirmed that her arc will take influence from her comic book counterpart's, so she will most likely seek out her old lover in an attempt to cure her cancer.
Thor: Love and Thunder finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor.
Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit) and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, Thor: Love and Thunder opens in theaters July 8, 2022.
