THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER Star Natalie Portman Reveals Her Dream MCU Team-Up As The Mighty Thor

The last time we saw Jane Foster, she had reunited with the God of Thunder for a passionate embrace at the end of Thor: The Dark World. However, by the time Avengers: Age of Ultron rolled around, something had happened and the couple had gone their separate ways.

Thor: Love and Thunder is expected to finally explain what went wrong with this romance, but even more exciting is the fact Jane is about to transform into the heroic Mighty Thor.

It's unclear how long she'll wield Mjolnir for, but Portman has already given her Marvel Cinematic Universe future some thought. Asked in the video below who she would like to team up with after heading into battle alongside Thor and King Valkyrie, the Oscar-winner responded, "I love Captain Marvel. Brie [Larson] is a dear friend so that would be a fun one."

There are many fans who are convinced Carol Danvers will be Valkyrie's love interest in Thor: Love and Thunder, so there's definitely a chance Portman will get to share the screen with that hero. Either way, this hopefully means The Mighty Thor is here to stay.

Of course, it was back in May that director Taika Waititi cast some doubt on that when he said, "I think a lot of fans are gonna potentially assume, 'Oh, okay, this is the passing on of the torch.' I'm not privy to any plans Marvel has for the future, but I don't think that's the case."

Check out the full interview with Portman below:

The movie finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor.

Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi, the movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Russell Crowe, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, and Sean Gunn among others.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to be released in theaters on July 8, 2022.

"I think a lot of fans are gonna potentially assume, 'Oh, okay, this is the passing on of the torch.' I'm not privy to any plans Marvel has for the future, but I don't think that's the case."

Wasn't there just an article this week with Hemsworth saying this might be his last MCU movie? Does anyone knownif his contract is up again? Could this just be him setting himself up for a higher pay check if he needs to re-sign with Marvel? Because in the past I also know that he's said he would love to do these movies forever. But things change over time also. So I'm not real sure

@CorndogBurglar - I think they mean it’s not a passing of the torch in the sense that rather than replacing old Thor with new Thor, they're adding a new Thor to the mix.

@Deklipz - Right. But I'm saying, didn't Hemsworth say this might be his last movie? If it is, then it probably will be a passing of the torch.

@CorndogBurglar - Maybe Hemsworth contract has finished and we are going to hear this comments from him a lot, that is called strategy haha he will try to pursuit a new bigger and fatter contract, after all he is not a good actor he has right now no acting range beyond comedy so is the best for him and his future to continue until he become old thor 🤔

@URLMae - Hemsworth isn't just a comedy actor lol. He was great in Extraction, which didn't have a single joke on it that I can remember.

@CorndogBurglar - Yup and he was absolutely great in Heart of the Sea, Rush, and Bad Times at the El Royale on top of Extraction.

He is a very good actor outside of Thor (which he's AWESOME as well ofc)

Also here is Chris talking about future stuff after this one just yesterday I think

@CorndogBurglar - nice film great action sequences but still wooden acting, the only time I have see him acting a little bit and getting into a character is in rush sadly Daniel brühl was in there and stoles the whole movie.

They always have to be coy and careful in these press junket interviews, but with the early reactions suggesting there are surely tears to be had in this film, I'm kind of expecting either Jane or Thor to die in the end. It can really go either way, and be devastating either way under the circumstances. Losing Hemsworth would obviously be a darn sad blow, but with Jane's cancer plotline, they can really draw a heartbreaking end to the relationship out of that; and also a great story for why Portman would have agreed to return (money and fame-points aside).

Of course it is “passing the torch”.
They are getting rid of all of the male heroes and making it all female in the MCU.

It’s very obvious that that is the plan.
Anybody can see it. Why play coy.

- Tony Stark (Iron Man) replacing with Ironheart (Riri Williams)
- Hawkeye replaced with Kate Bishop
- Captain America replaced with Captain Carter
- Thor replaced it’s Lady Thor
- Hulk replaced with She-Hulk
- even Dr. Strange his movie was more about Scarlet Witch than Dr. Srange.

It’s quite obvious.

@SpaceParanoids - didn't they replace Captain America with Sam though?

And Doctor Strange is sticking around for the long run. And so is Moon Knight, and Shang-Chi, and Loki, and Rhodey and Ant-Man. You get what I'm saying

Also, what's the problem with them putting more females on our screens? I, for one, prefer to look at women instead of men anyway. Bet I'm not the only guy
