Chris Hemsworth Wants THOR To Join GUARDIANS And Jessica Chastain To Join RAGNAROK
While continuing to tease a "new and unexpected" direction for his third solo outing as the God of Thunder, the star of Thor: Ragnarok expresses desires to see his Asgardian join another Marvel franchise but also have one of his The Huntsman co-stars join his franchise
Before Cate Blanchett had entered final negotiations to join the Thor: Ragnarok cast, leading man Chris Hemsworth was asked which of his The Huntsman co-stars – Emily Blunt, Charlize Theron, and Jessica Chastain – would he like to see tackle a villainess role in the 2017 Marvel threequel. Also, before echoing producer Kevin Feige’s recent comments about taking the franchise in a new direction, the Aussie actor admitted he wants his God of Thunder to join a new superhero team.
“I'd love him to hang out with the Guardians crew,” said Hemsworth when MTV News asked which other Marvel franchise he would like Thor to appear in. “I love that film and there's a great amount of fun to be had.” This response was not at all surprising given Hemsworth previously expressed a desire for his own franchise to be more like Guardians of the Galaxy tonally.
Meanwhile, Cinema Blend had pressed the actor to reveal who he thinks would make the best Thor: Ragnarok villain out of his beautiful co-stars from The Huntsman. “They all have potential to scare the hell out of me, any of those women,” he began. “I felt like the little brother, getting bossed around by these three women in the best way. Oh God, don’t make me pick one... maybe Jessica, but that’s only because [Emily and Charlize] are already villains in our film.” Fair enough! Chastain seems ideal considering she’d love to play Carol Danvers… if the Captain Marvel movie wasn’t many years away. Plus, there’s reportedly another “badass” female character to be cast opposite Cate Blanchett in Thor: Ragnarok, so maybe Hemsworth’s fan-cast could come to fruition.
Finally, during a separate interview with the Toronto Sun, Chris Hemsworth had explained that he wants to keep his Asgardian Avenger interesting and he teased the big plans Marvel Studios have. “The danger is when you have a long line of films — as with Thor — you do think you have all the answers and, if you think you know how to do it, you sort of sleepwalk through it,” he said. “That would become sort of boring. So you’ve got to keep looking at different ways to advance it and do things that are unexpected, and keep looking deeper within the story.” Though he hadn’t received the script during this interview earlier this month, Hemsworth knows what’s in store. “There certainly has been a huge discussion and there is definitely a goal to do something unexpected in the third one and really mix it up,” he said. “Everyone seems to be on the same page! There is so much exposure on that character and you just don’t want him to be predictable ... but I think we want to get back to more of a sense of adventure and fun in the third Thor.”
Starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Ray Stevenson, Anthony Hopkins, and Mark Ruffalo, Thor: Ragnarok is currently being scripted by Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle with Taika Waititi set to direct, and the movie scheduled to release in theaters on November 3, 2017.
