While Thor: Love and Thunder was critically maligned, it was still a box office success for Marvel Studios, earning $761M worldwide from a production budget of $250M.
After helming two Thor films in a row, director Taika Waititi has indicated that he's likely done with the franchise, opening the door for another director to step in, if Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige want to make another standalone Thor film.
As such, George Miller (Fury Road, Babe, Happy Feet) was recently asked whether he would consider reuniting with Chris Hemsworth on Thor 5, after directing the Australian actor in the upcoming Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
Somewhat surprisingly, Miller stated that he'd consider it.
"I would work with Chris on anything. I really would. He's a wonderful actor. He's got the full range of all the skills," said Miller. "I mean, you've got to be athletic, physically."
"But, you also gotta be athletic emotionally and intellectually to take on these very, ultimately fairly complex, any role really. So, I was very lucky with all my cast and particularly in the way that Anya and Chris matched each other. Particularly towards the end of the month."
Unless there are some surprises in Deadpool & Wolverine, Thor's next appearance is most likely in Avengers 5 and/or Avengers: Secret Wars. As Marvel Studios closes out The Multiverse Saga in the next few years, kicking off the next phase of film's with a solo Thor film would be a somewhat, safe option.
More recently, Hemsworth lamented how Love and Thunder turned out in a Vanity Fair piece, placing the blame solely on his shoulders.
"I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself," said Hemsworth. "I didn’t stick the landing."
Last August, @MyTimeToShine reported that Thor 5 was in development at Marvel Studios but Variety quickly debunked that rumor as nonsense. Furthermore, who knows how much longer these anonymous Twitter accounts will be around after it seems Marvel is finally taking action.
In a past interview, Hemsworth stated that he only wants to return for another Thor film if there's demade from MCU fans.
"I don’t want to continue to do it until people are so exhausted that they roll their eyes when they see me come on the screen as that character. If an audience wants to see it, and if there’s something that we believe is exciting and fun, then great."
"I’ve loved being able to reinvent that character a few times. I don’t have the answer yet, but I would love to try and [figure out] how we can do that again and keep it a little unpredictable."
