No, THOR 5 Is Not In Development At Marvel Studios

This weekend, an online rumor surfaced that proposed that not only is a fifth Thor film in development at Marvel Studios but director Taika Waititi is in line to return.

Contrary to assertions from an anonymous, online "reliable scooper," Thor 5 is not in development at Marvel Studios.

It looks as if Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi's comments on a "potential" Thor 5 in Thor: Love and Thunder’ The Official Movie Special were used to create the narrative that another film was in the works and that Taika wants to return.

Veteran Hollywood trade Variety, has confirmed that the film is not actually in development.

Waititi's actual quote from the book reads:

"What is left to do to him? It’s got to be something that feels like it’s carrying on with the evolution of the character, but still in a very fun way and still giving him things to come up against that feel like they’re building on the obstacles that he has to overcome. I don’t think we can have a villain that’s weaker than Hela. I feel like we need to step up from there and add a villain that’s somehow more formidable."

This statement was somehow twisted into implying that Thor 5 was in development and Waititi was likely to return.

Previously, Thor actor Chris Hemsworth told Entertainment Weekly that he only wants to return for another solo Thor movie if all the conditions are right.

"I don’t want to continue to do it until people are so exhausted that they roll their eyes when they see me come on the screen as that character. If an audience wants to see it, and if there’s something that we believe is exciting and fun, then great. I’ve loved being able to reinvent that character a few times. I don’t have the answer yet, but I would love to try and [figure out] how we can do that again and keep it a little unpredictable."

Hemsworth also told GQ that he thought Love and Thunder went a step too far with its humor.

"I think we just had too much fun. It just became too silly. It’s always hard being in the center of it and having any real perspective…I love the process, it’s always a ride. But you just don’t know how people are going to respond."

That's not exactly a ringing endorsement from Hemsworth on a new installment, much less Taika's return.

Currently, there are no official plans for Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder to return but the expectation is that he will have a role in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and/or Avengers: Secret Wars.
