Taika Waititi Now Hints At Smarter ‘HULK’ In THOR: RAGNAROK & INFINITY WAR?

The latest quotes from Taika Waititi has the director of the God of Thunder's third standalone outing talk a bit more about Loki's return, but also the kind of Hulk we'll be getting. Check it out!

When HitFix sat down with Taika Waititi at the Sundance Film Festival to discuss his new film Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Thor: Ragnarok eventually became the topic of discussion. This time, the director was first asked about the likeliness of Mark Ruffalo’s Incredible Hulk becoming more intelligent when he returns in the 2017 threequel. “It's interesting, because at the moment, there’s a big conversation that’s happening about how far to push that,” Waititi explained. “Whether or not The Hulk should be [verbal/conscious].”

In light of rumors that the Planet Hulk/ World War Hulk story arc will be incorporated into Thor: Ragnarok, it makes sense the Jade Giant would be more verbal and conscious when he reunites with the God of Thunder. However, Waititi implies Marvel really wants to go that route with Hulk in Avengers: Infinity War. “I think a lot of those conversations have more to do with what’s going to come up in future movies,” the director teased. “So I think a lot of those decisions are larger group decisions, rather than anything to do with just me or the writer. They have a lot of stuff that they have to consider. But I do think that’s the best way to track it. I think we all want that. I think we all want to see that development and the evolution of that character. I also think you can do it in a fun way.”

Also during this interview, Taika Waititi was asked once again about the God of Mischief, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, and whether or not the Thor franchise needs the supervillain. “He’s such a big part of it,” he said. “And he's such a great part of it. My focus really is making sure that Thor is the best character, though.” When it was mentioned that making the Thunder God the best character is something Marvel has yet to do, Waititi laughed before adding, “Yeah, well that is my goal! Because he’s got to be. And it should be that way.”

Make the jump to HitFix to find out how Taika Waititi is transitioning from indie films to blockbuster movies, how he compares himself to Guardians of the Galaxy writer/director James Gunn, and also how much creative control he has on Ragnarok. What do you think? Starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Mark Ruffalo, with Cate Blanchett and Anthony Hopkins, Thor: Ragnarok is set for release November 3, 2017.

We need to see Thor conjure up a hurricane or a tornado; something to display his true godly power

@ComicsBornAndBred - He did conjure up a tornado in his fight with Destroyer. Let's not forget, he did kill Jon Kent with one lol

@ComicsBornAndBred - I'm not really a big Thor fan, but I do know that he is waaaaaay more powerful in the comics as compared to how he's portrayed in the MCU. Henry Cavil's Superman would obliterate Chris Hemsworth... And as far as I know, that a fight between those two would probably be even. Probably one slightly edging out the other

I honestly don't understand why we haven't already gotten a talking/intelligent Hulk. Maybe they think it'd be a bit too silly, but having Banner "Hulk-out" at an inopportune time, and going on a rampage will only be entertaining for so long.

I like that he keeps reiterating that Thor HAS TO BE the most interesting and best charcater

Thor HAS to be the best character, but let's hope the villians don't lose significance and focus due to Thor getting a lot of deserved attention

I'd love for Loki's helmet to return but with longer horns

Thor Helmet

Loki Helmet

Hulk in Planet Hulk outfit

Throg

Hela/Enchantress and Executioner

Beta Ray Bill

Sif

Warriors 3

THIS IS WHAT I NEED IN THOR MOVIES

Ragnarok wouldn't fit into the story tho
Or in this movie
Marvel DO NOT mess this up.

My favourite thing about Hulk is the Banner/Hulk dynamic, I definitely do not mind hulk getting smarter, but I wouldn't want him to over shadow Banner altogether. Make him more intelligent so he can interact better with his team mates but I don't want to see full blown conversations outside the battlefield.
Also power up Thor already, he's a pussy.

@Scorpo - You see everyone except Thor wear their helmets most of the time.
Loki wears his helmet during fight scenes... I want Thor with his helmet during battle scenes, especially in this damn movie. I guess Marvel doesn't think he looks good with it on or maybe they just want to show off the pretty boy face and hair. Im all for the Helmet though.
