Thor: Love and Thunder concluded with a significant status quo change for the title character, with the Odinson gaining a surrogate daughter in the form of Gorr the God Butcher's resurrected child.
Taika Waititi's divisive MCU sequel left the door wide open for the God of Thunder and his Mjölnir-wielding kid to return at some point, but it sounds like Chris Hemsworth may only be down for one more appearance... because he feels it might be about time for Thor to meet his maker!
The Aussie actor was asked if he'd be down to return as the Asgardian hero during an interview with Vanity Fair.
"Yeah, for sure. I feel like we’d probably have to close the book if I ever did it again, you know what I mean? I feel like it probably warrants that. I feel like it’d probably be the finale, but that’s not based on anything anyone’s told me or any sort of plans. You have this birth of a hero, the journey of a hero, then the death of a hero, and I don’t know... am I at that stage? Who knows?"
Hemsworth went on to reiterate that he hasn't actually heard anything about potentially reprising the role, but unless Marvel Studios has another Thor solo outing on their slate we don't know about or plans for Thor to pop up in one of the previously announced Phase 5 movies/shows, we probably won't see him again until Avengers: The Kang Dynasty at the earliest.
In a separate interview with Good Morning America, Hemsworth sounded a little less optimistic about donning the wig and cape again.
“Uh, I don’t know. I’m sort of… finished my run for the time being, but never say never. I love playing the character. My daughter, the other day, was saying, ‘No, no, Dad, you’ve gotta do it. People love seeing you play Thor.’ And so, who knows?”
