With the likes of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger leading the way for Paramount, the studio has already surpassed the previous domestic earnings record of $1.714 billion, earning a reported $1.735 billion in 2011. Supplementing those big three were Kung Fu Panda 2, Super 8, Puss in Boots and Paranormal Activity 3. Here's a refresher on the final domestic totals for these films:

+Transformers: Dark of the Moon -$352.4 million domestic
+Thor - $181 million domestic
+Captain America: The First Avenger - $176.6 million domestic
+Kung Fu Panda 2 - $165.3 million domestic
+Puss in Boots - $135.4 million domestic
+Super 8 - $127 million domestic
+Rango - $123.3 million domestic
+Paranormal Activity 3 - $103 million domestic
+True Grit - $100.6 million domestic [*a 2010 release that still produced for Paramount in 2011]

Keep in mind that the studio still has a number of notable released this year, with Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol leading the way. The above data comes courtesy of the statistical gurus of Box Office Mojo.

Paramount currently has a $110 million lead on rival Warner Bros. Box Office Mojo points the finger at Green Lantern, Sucker Punch, and Happy Feet 2 as the underperformers that may allow Paramount to top Warner Bros. for the first time since 2007.

The site also highlights the fact that, "Paramount only took a distribution fee on Thor and Captain America, both of which are owned by Disney/Marvel, and Kung Fu Panda 2 and Puss in Boots, produced by DreamWorks Animation. That model serves to reduce risk but also cut in to profits, so there's no telling if the bottom line is better or worse off this year than in previous years."

Paramount Pictures Corporation is an American film and television production/distribution company, located at 5555 Melrose Avenue in Hollywood. Founded in 1912 and currently owned by media conglomerate Viacom, it is America's oldest existing film studio; it is also the last major film studio still headquartered in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles. Paramount is consistently ranked as one of the top-grossing movie studios.
