BOX OFFICE: TRANSFORMERS 4 Beats TAMMY By A Plump Margin

The Fourth of July holiday five-day weekend was very kind to Michael Bay's Transformers: Age of Extinction. It pulled in $20M more than second place finisher, Tammy.

Fourth of July box office was down 43% percent from last year. In 2013, Despicable Me 2 opened to $83.5M, but this year, Paramount Pictures' Transformers: Age of Extinction "should have a $35.5M to $36M three-day and a $52.8M to $53.4M five-day holiday weekend." Some of the box office decline can be placed upon the bad weather that the northeast incurred during the holiday. While Melissa McCarthy's R-rated comedy Tammy underperformed her last few films, pulling in a pedestrian "$21.1M three-day and probably around a $32.9M five day." It currently has a 27% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and only received a 'C+' Cinemascore from audiences. The box office should get a boost next weekend when 20th Century Fox's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes opens. Current predictions put it on pace for a $68M opening. That would easily surpass Rise of the Planet of the Apes' $54.8M opening in 2011.

Don't look now, but Cap had a much better 2nd weekend than Transformers. Closing the gap!

I'll lmao if Cap beats Transformers domestically.

Two more weeks (or maybe just one) and T4 will pass X-men.

According to boxofficemojo this year has had a pretty low box office

I think the box office decline can be based on the fact that it was a shit movie

I'd most certainly say that it's...

TF1: (Grand introduction to the franchise and characters. The story wasn't too long and gave both old and new coming audience members enough story to stay engaged with all the characters. I still hate how the ONLY black transformer got killed off first though...smh. However the Decepticons felt pretty brutal and the pacing *especially towards the end* made it such a memorable summer film. Let's not forget the credits scene of Starscream flying into space! Such a tease!)

TF4: (It was great to see Optimus in an entirely new mindset towards the human species. Was a pretty entertaining take on a brand new chapter within the transformers franchise and to me it personally felt like the human characters were on the robots time and not the other way around. The newer autobot characters were very impressive but sadly they lacked in the areas of treating the Dinobots with the same respect. It sets up numerous possibilities of where the next film can go.)

TF3: (Although the film may have been a bit lengthy it really picked up it's momentum near the final battle in Chicago if I'm correct? It was a pretty non-stop action film and some of the action scenes were very top notch. Bay may not have made the perfect comeback but you could tell that the finale actually felt like a finale. Sentinel Prime owning Optimus in battle and mindset was pretty cool to see. It only lacked in areas where specific Decepticons met their fate. I personally feel that they were taken down way too easily. I personally felt that this film would've been the perfect time to show how menacing Starscream was by possibly killing off Megatron and/or Sentinel Prime. Overall it's an action packed film that showed that the franchise still packed a punch after the disappointing TF2.)

TF2: (Although it succeeds in certain areas featuring *combination transformations* = Optimus and Jetfire, Constructicons, fight scenes "Forrest Battle" and also pre bits of the "Optimus vs. The Fallen" battle the ending felt wayyyy too quick, the human element to the story was way too long and aside from the humor to be a relief it was just flat watered down after a few consistent attempts. It's a prime example of a "bigger sequel" but it lacked bringing forth the charm the first one brought to us.)

Tammy looked like shit on a stick on trailers therefore will not watch.
Earth to echo bombed....figured it would.
I still want to check out Deliver us from evil but thats because I want to check out Derricksons style. I saw Sinister but only liked two thirds of it.

Bay formers : more than meets the eye.

Transformers 4 is way behind the others transformer flicks in North American box office, but worldwide it is doing well having already made far more in China alone where it's over $200m. (Of course, there's an article in Variety about the lengths they went to make it favorable to the Chinese government, with cowardly, lying American authority figures and competent and effective Chinese characters.). It's the future of blockbusters, I'm afraid.

LOL @ that title.

Oh, Nail.
You're a cheeky bloke aren't you?

This really was no contest, though. Tammy was a resounding dud.

Like Transformers AoE, Tammy didn't really have much of a plot.
Unlike Transformers AoE, Tammy didn't look visually appealing to compensate for it's short-comings.
