Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Was Offered Mark Wahlberg's Role In TRANSFORMERS 4

Wouldn't that have been interesting? During a Twitter Q&A session, Dwayne Johnson reveals that he was initially offered the lead role in Michael Bay's next Transformers film, before Pain & Gain co-star Mark Wahlberg was cast.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been involved with quite a few franchises/tentpoles in the past, having starred in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, Fast Five (and this summer's Fast & Furious 6), and next year's Hercules. However, what would it have been like to see the wrestler-turned-actor tackle a Transformers movie? While it has been suggested in the past, Johnson answered that very question in today's "Rock Talk" Q&A session on Twitter. He revealed that his Pain & Gain director Michael Bay initially offered him the lead role in Transformers 4, but had to turn it down due to his filming Hercules this summer.

As we all know, Mark Wahlberg (who also worked with Johnson on Pain & Gain, which is in theaters now) eventually landed said role, after some internet rumors apparently influenced Bay to cast him. However, would you have liked to see The Rock star in Transformers 4 instead? Both actors recently expressed interest in a Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover film.

Transformers 4 stars Mark Wahlberg, Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz and Stanley Tucci. The film is set to hit theaters June 27th, 2014.
