We all figured that a fourth Transformers film was inevitable. With Dark Of The Moon grossing over $1 billion worldwide last summer (the second highest grossing of last year, next to Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part 2), Paramount Pictures would of course be interested in continuing the series if they kept making money. And it appears that progress on a fourth film in the financially successful series.

Coming Soon has learned that Paramount Pictures is eyeing a 2014 release date for the next film in the Transformers series, despite Michael Bay not being confirmed to direct (he's filming his next project, Pain And Gain, in April, and will likely be open afterwards). It's also unknown if any prior cast members will return (though Tyrese Gibson, who played 'Robert Epps' in the trilogy, has expressed interest in returning for a possible fourth installment); lead actor Shia LaBeouf has said in the past that he was done with the franchise following the third movie.

In addition, the website recently chatted with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura concerning a number of upcoming projects, including Transformers 4. "We’ll be there in the summer of 2014," he confirmed. "Michael had a debate because he sort of felt at first that he'd done three. Michael and I are both the same in that we always like to top ourselves. That doesn't necessarily mean bigger. It can be bigger in places, it just means different, but we're going to push really hard as fresh and new as we can be."

Di Bonaventura also talked about the direction that the fourth film will go in, comparing it to G.I. Joe: Retaliation. "Again, we're going to try to do a hybrid there where there will be some characters that come forward--we think, we're still in the process of figuring it out--and some characters that don't, but it will definitely be a different story."
