Proving that everyone's favorite robots are still popular, the latest Transformers film, Dark Of The Moon, has made a total of $37 million yesterday in its first full day of release, and is now standing at a total of $42.5 million domestically. Super Hero Hype has the following...

After earning $5.5 million at the 9pm Tuesday night screenings, Transformers: Dark of the Moon added $37 million its first full day of release on Wednesday for a domestic total of $42.5 million.

The opening is quite a bit lower than the $62 million that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen earned its first day (also a Wednesday) and closer to the first Transformers' $27.9 million it earned its opening day (a Tuesday).

Starring Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Patrick Dempsey, John Malkovich, and the voices of Peter Cullen and Leonard Nimoy, Transformers: Dark Of The Moon is out now at your local theater!

Okay, that's a huge number for opening day, no doubt. But surely a drop of $25m from the opening day of one film to the opening of its sequel has to be an all-time record. Add inflation and 3-D upcharges, and that may be the biggest bleed off of attendance ever in straight numbers (not percentages).

All of which is likely evidence that, yes... Transformers 2 really, really sucked hard to kill off that much anticipation for another go.

It's a $20 mil drop from ROTF opening day (I know technically $25 mil but the 9:00 pm shows from Tues should be lumped in as ROTF didn't have pre-midnight preview). Keep in mind that ROTF was a full 10 days before July 4th weekend. I believe more people will go Fri-Mon this time than will show for Weds & Thurs showings.

More of the same special effects, another pretty girl who can't act... and more Shia LeBouf. And you know all those annoying plot line, story arcs, and continuity you've had to deal with in other half decent movies... Worry not, Michael Bay has taken all that out, for your viewing pleasure... Have fun and enjoy.

Ample doses of "Depakote" required. If you've ever wondered what having a seizure is like, "Transformers: DOTM," is your ticket to ride.

"DOTM" is a non-stop orgy of pointless, mind-numbing robot destruction and violence highlighted by an endless parade of mechanical innards whizzing across the screen at 200 MPH.

As for the rest of the movie, the plot is a convoluted mess and the human characters are a joke. Not only is their acting bad but the dialogue appears to have been scripted by a 9 year-old. Also, over the course of 2 hours horn-dog Michael Bay reduces women to nothing more than mindless, annoying hump magnets. Look no further than the frequent up close ass and crotch shots of pneumatic Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and the "Vivid" contract girl lookalikes in the background.

Sadly, even the Transformers are lame. Unlike the cartoon and comic books of the 80's, none of the key Transformers are developed enough in the story to the point where you care what's happening to them.

In summary, Michael Bay and the overrated Steven Spielberg succeed magnificently in further destroying a cool sci-fi premise that always had the potential to be awesome in the hands of a more competent, visionary director and producer.
